THE PROGRESSIVE FARMER: SEPTEMBER 13. 1892: IN MEMORIAM. The following com JK, was ordered by the Lenoir Oo. Alliance to drart resolutions Trvect in memory of Col L. L. Polk. Our Heavenly Father, 'the W of death hen from rthlV 1110 ine BUUi a.ixvx uwvijr ut vvii. St Pnifc- a man who had woven the t"'nAa nf his own existence into the HfA of his fellow-citizens by tak- vfi their cause in hand and bidding Sf m on to a glorious triumph of right w word came over the wires on that tal day of June 11, 1892, 4 4 Polk is millions of hearts groaned a 5n' sizn. and words expressed the sincerity of their great sorrow that in ?L hottest of the fight - our leader should be called from us so suddenly. S7,t wft bow our heads, press our ach ing hearts and wipe our eyes, realizing the fact, vaguely or perhaps feebly, that our dear brother has lived out his allotted time; that he has finished his ufftwork and has. been mysteriously home OUt Deyuiiu iuo reauu ot an uartu lv troubles and sufferings and has en farpA uDon a blissful existence in a future state compared to which earth ly happiness is a mere shadow. Still the bereavement is ever with us, but the consolation of such a Christian character that made our departed brother so dear to us in this life, often brings comfort and consolation which gives us a feeling of reconciliation with lie unchanged will of God. fiesolved, That in the death of Col. jj, L. Polk we have lost a Christian brother and friend, a statesman and leader of the people and an uninaugu rated President of the United States, and that we may trust God for another leader, as the children of Israel did when He took Moses from them over Jordan into the premised land, to give us another leader to take up the mantle where Col. Polk laid it down and lead the people out from under the yoke of financial bondage and mortgage in debtedness, to the Canaan of peace and plenty in the sweet by and by. 2. That a copy of these resolutions be spread upon our minutes and read at our next quarterly meeting, and a copy be sent to The Progressive Farmer for publication. Fraternally, E. P. Hauser, Dr. R. W. Wooten, Levy Mewborne, Geo. V. Richardson, Macon Pulley, Committee. Send in your renewals, please. Club together and send several at once. THOMPSON SCHOOL.
