Alston, Dem. Our Republican friends are loud in their complaints concerning the appoint ments, and say that Webb has gone back on Brower, as well as the pledge he made to the Republicans of the District, as will be seen from the following: o True copy This is to certify that if I am appointed as Supervisor of the Eleventh Census for the 4th DisUict of North Carolina that the Republicans in ecah county in my District shall have the control of the patronage, and that I will lend my influence to that party, this Dec. 10th, 1889. W. E. Webb. Witness: W. II. Pulley. This was only a little strategism exer cised by Mr. Webb to capture the office as well as to give the Democrats a good showing at some of the big money that is going the rounds. If every county in this District is as well represented with Dem ocrats as Granville, Quay will have a hard time counting the negro out of the census in this District. Our Republican friends have again been fooled. Brower has certainly distroyed his chances for renomination, and the gallant Baldy Wil liams will have the pleasure of beating some other one on that side of the house. ; All Ilie Iru-j-ji il of Oxford, to-wit : Davis, Thomas & Co., Furman & Hays, S.
