I had no appetite and could not sleep. I would be com pelled to sit up in bed and belch gas from my stomach until I thought that every minute would be my last. There was a feelling of oppression about my heart, and I was afraid to draw a full breath. I could not sweep a room without resting. My hus band induced me to try Dr. Miles' Heart Cure and am happy to say it has cured me. I now have a splendid appetite and sleep well. Its effect was truly marvelous." MRS. HARRY E. This the 20th Anguet. 1894. BETTIK F. MONTAGUE, fent for the estate of Young M. C. Montague, eceased, eeptl4-6t, if pi lmA mOmiwdes dose , proues 1th 1 lea An Honest Confession. I have beeu fooled by the People' party. I was conscientious in iny views heretofore and did believe the People's party was right, but now I see that they were trying to lead myself as well as others into a party that all white men know is the cause of our present troubles, arising from national legislation, as was the case in this State from 1S5G to 1876. I am free to confess that I am yet of the opinion that the Farmers Al liance was an excellent order, and if it had been carried out on the prin ciples set forth in its organization it would have done the agricultural classes good. I can now see what our late representative, Hon. W. T. Adams, told us two years ago is fast being verified, and do now commend him for exposing the fraud at the time he did. I am a white man and in favor of white supremacy, and that through the Democratic party, as it is the only political party that I know of that has steered clear on that line. I will no longer listen to uncertain sounds. I am a Democrat and feel free to say so, believing the door to the party is wide open for my recep tion as well as it is for all others. Come brethren, let's go back home. I am not in favor of tearing down our present county government sys tem and overthrowing a good gov ernment, and 1 believe if we follow that Populist gang it will be done, so I am no longer going to have any thing to do with them. I am going back home again. I invite you all with me. Ralph Currin. Oct. 3rd, 1S04. I, Win. Woods, of the county of Durham, formerly a Populist, en dorse the above statement of Mr. Currin and will accept of his invita tion. Oct. 3rd, 1S94. I, D. C. Walker, with Mr. Wm. Woods, endorse Mr. Currin, and will accept of his invitation. Oct. 3rd, 1S1M, Salem Sayings. The crop of peas and vines are about completely lest. Miss Rebecca Rice is spending the week with relatives in Oxford. Mr. Stephen Wilkerson, a highly respected citizen of this neighbor hood, is quite sick, There are two cane mills in opera tion in one mile of us, and there is demand for one or two more. W. L. Rice and family and Uncle Zack Daniel, of Lewis, spent last Sunday with Mr. W. T. Rice. Cows continue to die in this neigh borhood. Rev. W. S. fiester has lost four, several have lost two and quite a number have lost one. Owing to the weather the Third party picnic at Dexter the 9th was a failure. It is said by some capable of judging that some of the Third party crowd about Dexter contrib uted more for the picnic than they have given to the cause of Christ in twelve months. Mr. N. G. Crews is the happiest man on the O. & H. road. He to gether with some others can realize the true sentiment in the words ut tered by Mr. Webster when he said: Corn in the crib and money in the pocket, A baby in the cradle and a pretty wife to rock it. William Gibbs, a very working lit tle fellow of 8 years, went out the other day to cut poles to build him a pig pen. While cutting the first pole his axe glanced and cut his big toe neatly off. At this writing he is get ting on very well and will soon be able to finish the pen or to cut the other big toe. The sermon at the M E. church in Oxford last Sunday night by Dr. Cook was perhaps the grandest we ever heard. "Lord if thou wilt thou canst make me clean" was the text. The jestures, the delivery, the ser mon, the marked attention of the au dience, the whole, could not be sur passed anywhere. This was indeed a grand treat and a feast to all whose privilege it was to be there. According to appointment quite a number of true Democrats met at Salem last Saturday to organize a Democratic club. Although all of our speakers did not get there we had some good talkers and a very successful meeting. The Club was organized with thirty names on the roll. The staunch and true Demo crat Mr. E. N. Crews was chosen as President and Mr. Sammie Crews elected secretary. The next meeting will be held Friday night, Oct. 12th, at which time Hon. W. W. Kitchin will address the club. It was my pleasure to hear Hon. John. R. Webster at Dabney last Friday. He started out by saying he had no apologies to make for be ing a Democrat. He first took up and commented on an article of a recent issue in the Granville County Reformer which criticised Mr. Web ster. He said that as St. Paul was the chief among sinners, just so was the writer of that article chief among liars. Mr. Webster made a good speech and a fine impression. He raked little Tommie Settle to the core. He said, to his certain know ledge, that when Tommie claimed to be doing so much filibustering he was in towns and cities far away from Washington. Nicholas. ltzh. on'human, mange on horses, dogs and all stock cured in 30 minutes by Woolford's Sanitary Lotion. This never fails. Sold by J. G. Hall, druggist, Ox ford, N. C. Dexter Dots. We are sorry to state that Mr. Ste phen W. Wilkinson is quite ill at this writing. We regret much because it was so we couldn't be at the meeting of the correspondents, Mr. E. J. Green and Miss Mattie Rice visited the Berea section Sun day and Monday. One of our young gents has a new buggy. Girls, doubtless you will have many a nice ride with him. A good many squirrels are said to be in this vicinity. No doubt many of them will be killed as the farmers are somewhat at leisure no .v. People are quite busy making mo lasses at present. They say it is turning out very good. We are afraid some will make so much they will gel stuck up. We had the pleasure of hearing an extra good sermon at Poplar Creek church by the pastor on Sunday last. Many accomplished and charming young ladies attracted our attention as well as the sermon. Y. K. W. Knights ot the Maccabees, The State Commander writes us from Lincoln, Neb., as follows: "After trying other medicines for what seemed to be a very obstinate cough in our two children we tried Dr. King's New Discovery and at the end of two days the cough entirely left them. We will not be without it hereafter, as our experience proves that it cures where all other remedies fail." Signed F. W. Stevens, State Com Why not give this great medicine a trial, as it guaranteed and trial bottles are free at J. G. Hall's drug store. Regular size 50c. $1.00. Administrator's Notice.
