FOR REPRKSENTATI VK FIFTH DISTRICT, AUGUSTUS W. GRAHAM, OF GRANVILLE. FOR SOLICITOR FIFTH DISTRICT, E. S. PARKER, OF ALAMANCE. COUNTY TICKET. FOR THE SENATE : AUBRY L. BROOKS, of Person County. For House of Representatives: WALLER L. TAYLOR, A. A. LYON. For Sheriff: E. C.HARRIS. For Clerk Superior Court; WILLIAM A. BOBBITT. For Register of Deeds: CHARLES F. CREWS. For Treasurer : ROHERT W. LASSITER. For Coroner : JaMES A. RENN. For Surveyor : BLOUNT E. GREEN. Do you wish to see the present system of county government abol ished ? If so vote the Africo-Rep-Pop-Dalby-Confusion ticket. Do you wish to see Mary an n But ler and some other Africo-Pop-Rep. elected to the United States Senate, thereby destroying the Democratic majority in that body ? If, so vote the Mongrel ticket ? The Burlington News is closing an account of the speaking of the Congressional candidates in that town last week says: "Mr. Graham holds his own exceedingly well and is as quick as Settle at repartee. They are pretty evenly matched to say the least, in many ways, though Settle is forced to the defensive all the time. Every day we see in our State ex changes announcements of Third party men in different sections of the State, who were Democrats be fore they became Thirdites, leaving the Third party and returning to the Democratic party. They have be come nauseated with fusion with the Republicans and indignant at the betrayal of them by "Me own Mary Ann "Butler" & Co. The Charlotte Ob server says the Progressive Farmer, "organ of the State Alliance," had in its issue of last week an elaborate editorial in defense of Republican government "XT' It gi 1- 1 -x m-wm in iNortn oaronna in it-7U. To this complexion has it come at last. Poor '"noble order," in the clutches of the negro party. What would the Alliancemen of the State have thought of that editorial in that paper four years ago when they were being told that "the Alliance hain't in politics," and that even though it had political gaievances it had no quarrel with the Democratic party on account of its management of State affairs ? POPULIST SHOULD PONDER WELL. We have never thought or be lieved otherwise than that there were thousands of good, well mean ing citizens in North Carolina who have united with the Populists. We would never intimate otherwise says the Wilmington Messenger. They are unfortunate in being most un wisely led. A part of their princi ples are sound and safe, but most unfortunately they are so blended with other dogmas that are revolu tionary and destructive as to repel tens of thousands of people in all the States who would wish them suc cess if their ends were indeed wise, practicable and beneficent. We feel assured that in every county good men, religious men even, men of character and who are at heart patriotic, are following the Populists leaders. They are follow ing blinded and ignorant men who have no real genius for government, but who are self-seekers, ill balanc ed, disappointed and ambitious. No wise and conscientious and sincere believers in the fundamentals of the People's Party would ever unite with the Republican party that antago nizes its principles at every turn. The good and true men among the Populists ought to spurn and repu diate with hot indignation this base betrayal this wholesale surrender to the radicals. If this worthy ele ment will look at the matter in the white light of truth they must see how glaring and false and foul the act that unites a party originated in reform with a party entrenched for more than thirty years behind the yery principles the Populists fight and denounce. In all the history of parties there has never been such a shameful surrender that authorizes every honest man to believe it to be steeped in fraud and corruption. Then to think of Eastern men good honest farmers living in counties once so harried and robbed and ruined by the Radicals and their negro allies between 1SGG-76, to be hob-nobbing, to be hurrahing with the Butler-Radical gang pledged to a repeal of the present system of County Government and making it certain that the old era of ruin, of high taxes and open rascality will be returned with all of mildew of death to prosperity, peace and safety. The Messenger would say unto every good man, every true citizen among the Populists to every pa triot and friend of humadity don't. Never agree to unite with your old develish enemy to oppress and vex and injure your Democratic neigh bors of a life time. Do not bring hurt and sorrow upon yourselves! GRAHAM A WINNER. Graham and Settle met some days ago and spoke at Greensboro to an immense audience. The Democrats were delighted with Gus Graham's castigation cf Tommie and were wild with enthusiasm. Of course the negroes cheered their champion. At Mt. Hope, a Republican strong hold in Guilford, Graham had the reply and he demolished Settle in grand style. Graham is winning friends every day and will beat Set tle and Butler's Dummy, Dr. Mer ritt, both at the polls, as the people are tired of demogogues and tricksters and will vote for plain honest Gus Graham. At Mt. Hope the Re publicans have heretofore had it their own way, but many Demo crats were out and great enthusiasm prevailed. Says a correspondent the Democracy of that section seemed to be wide awake and Mr. Graham was greatly encouraged. He certainly made a great many friends at this place. Mr. Henry Reams, of Durham, told the editor of Webster's Weekly last week that a gentleman in Dur ham who was a delegate to the Pop ulist convention at Hillsboro, refus ed to serve because Butler said Dr. Merritt was to be put up in Settle's interest. He boldly announced that he did not propose to be used for that purpose. We have too much faith in the manhood of the people to believe that these scheming poli ticians will be allowed to triumph. Remember, that if you will drink, you should always drink the purest liquors, and R. Broughton's is just the place to get it. jly27 tf. VOTE THE TICKET. The result of the election in North Carolina to the whole people is of stupendous importance. It really, and without exaggeration, would amount to something very nearly approaching a revolution if by the stupidity and blindness of the people voting that the control of public affairs should be taken from the great party that has saved the State and governed in wisdom and righteousness, and handed over to the unwise and reckless dema gogues and incapables who have united, throwing all semblance of principle to the winds, for the one purpose, the sole purpose of getting office, of securing grub and the dis tribution of spoils. It would not be a revolution of blood, but a revolu tion of radical wide, deep, broad that would amount to a cataclysm of of ruin and robbery, says the Wil mington Messenger. The thinking, sensible, honest, well meaning people of North Caro lina who would not bring upon the State a condition of disorder, of dis content, of extravagance, waste and incompetency, must unite and vote together note for the nominees of of the party. As Senator Ransom said in his speech here throw away prejudice and preference and person al dislikes and burn them on the altar of your country. It is of the greatest importance that the party nominees should be voted for by every man calling himself a Demo crat, and by every man who wishes well to his people and himself. This is no time for splitting tick ets and dropping names. You may find names on the tickets this year that are offensive to you, against your preference and judgment. But do not throw them aside. Vote the ticket. This is necessary now al most beyond any other year be cause of the truly infamous con spiracy afoot to ruin and blast North Carolina. Put the Radicals again in power, and you will invite the flood of wasteful extravagance and high taxes to come in again with all of its destructive, oppressed power. By failing to vote Jor a Democrat you in fact to that extent help to put in the vile combination of hun gry office seekers who drop all pre tense of principles to fasten their clutches upon the vitals of North Carolina. Duty to yourself, duty to your family, duty to your State compel you to maintain your prin ciples, vote the ticket and stand guard to the Democratic flag. We repeat, the election and its results is of the utmost importance to the future weal of North Caro lina. Your Legislature, two Sena tors, nine Representatives, the Ju diciary and County Government and low taxes and public education are all at stake. Vote the ticket. HELP WIN THE VICTORY. We do not think it admits of a doubt that the Third party in North Carolina is on the decline says an ex change. The rank and file are see ing that they have been sold out bodily to the Republicans, and many of them cannot be delivered. They are not accustomed to being traded upon, and they are not going to stand it now and are deserting the party every day. Moreover, they realize that their leaders have held out to them the hope of impossible things things which if they had would ruin them and are returning to the party which gives them good and safe gov ernment at home and through which their interests are properly represen ted at Washington, and Gus Graham is just the true man to do so from this district. Don't throw your votes away on Dummy Merritt put up by Butler to assist jn the election of Settle ! We would be glad to welcome them all back before November. The Democratic party is to win an other great victory then, and it will be glad to share the glory of it with former adherents who have tempo rarily forsaken it. Warranted the most wonderful Blemish Cure ever known. Sold by J. Q. Hall, druggist, Oxford, N. C. SHOULD NOT BE ELECTED. Emperor Li Hung Dalby, of the Third Party in Granville, mon grel candidate for Senator from this district, boldly opens his head and in a black breath proclaims that he is in favor of abolishing the present system of county government, cut ting down or abolishing the appro priation to the colored and white or phan asylum, the last man in North Carolina who should be opposed to such a thing. We ask him if he did not several years ago take a girl from the white orphan asylum and raise her, promising to protect and care for her ? Did he do it ? He is the last man, "between me and you" to talk about cutting off appropriations from institutions that protect and care for the orphans of North Caro lina. Every man who posseses just one flickering ember of matthood in his heart should do all in power to defeat such a man as Li Hung Dalby. Do you wish to see Dodger Settle again misrepresent this District in Congress, who yoted against every measure that benefitted our people, just cast your vote for Butler's slave, Dr. Merritt ? Every vote cast for him, as Settle appealed to Butler to bring out a Thirdite braying mule, as the pure young Democratic horse, Gus Graham, would beat him many length in the race. Of course it was done and as he catches the echo of the bray of wide-mouthed Butlerite as it reverberates through the dis trict he smiles and says: "The bray of Butler's snaggle tooth jack is sweet music to my ear, and oh ! But ler thou mighty king of frauds we bless thee for sending forth another like thee to gull the people." NEW 5T2QK -OF- JEWELRY!
