VERDICT GUILTY.
BROUGHT IN BY THE JURY IN THE
PRITGHARD CASE.
Sentence Not Yet Pronounced--Some
Proceedings of The Court This Morning--Grand
Jury Adjourned.
The case of Jordan Pritchard in the
Superior Court, charged withjthe mur
der of Daniel Moseley, was concluded
Saturday night with a verdict of "guil
ty." The jury had retired to their
homefor about a quarters of an hour
wnen they announced they had arriv
ed at a decision.
1 he arguments ot the counsel on
both sides were able, and the prisoner
owes his conviction to the weight o
evidence against him. Messrs. .J. T.
Strayhorn, of Roxboro, N. Y. Gulley,
of Franklinton, and A. A. Hicks, o
Oxford, appeared for the defendant,
and Mr. Wylie Peison, of Franklin
ton, assisted Solicitor Strayhorn in the
prosecution.
Judge Armfield has not yet pro
nounced sentence. Pritchard killed
Daniel Moseley in a melee among
number of drunken negro railroad
hands in a cabin in the northern par
of this county, ihere are some miti-
gating circumstances, and it is proba
ble that a petition to lighten his pun
ishment will be gotten up.
The ca-es disposed of this morning
were :
Stajte vs. JohnjE. Greenway; horse
stealing; verdict not guilty.
State vs. Ton Garner;
verdict of the jury not guilty oi . burg-
ary but guilty of larceny; sentenced

Atlanta Constitution's Washington cor.
Mr. Cowles, of North Carolina,
became so excited that he cried out:
''We'll fight for it, and throw that
man out 0 the chair !"
With this he started forwards the
Speaker, drawing up his coat sleeves
as he walked However, he was
headed off by less excited Democrats
and persuaded to desist from such a
course.
Three times Speaker Reed read the
names of democratic members present
who refused to vote. However, hot a
time was that of Mr. Bynum of Indiana
called out although, Mr. Bvnum stood
right in front of the Speaker each time
his name was called. Tom Reed has
nerve and determination as presiding
officer, but he is a physical coward.
He knew that Bynum had said: "No
Southern Democrat can resort to this.
but I can, and if Reed calls mv name
I shall face him and demand that it
be striken off his list, and if he refuses
I shall demand personal satisfaction.
He shall not stigmatize me."
Reed knew that Bynum would make
it a personal matter, and he dared not
give him toe opportunity. '
