The News- Observer says that a wid ow named Mrs. Mary Rigsbee, aged 66, was run over and killed six miles north of Durham on the Oxford and Clarksville Railroad by the train com ing toward Raleigh yesterday. She had been to a spring and was return ing to her house on the opposite side of the track with a bucket of water in her hand and attempted to cross in front of the engine. Both legs were broken and her head , crushed into an un recognizable mass. A Ruffin, N. C, special says: David Stokes, a colored man, attempt ed to drive a house cat from the room and poked her with a stick. The ani mal became enraged, flew upon Stokes and buried her teeth in his arm. The animal held on with such tenacity it was necessary to sever her head from her body before friends could release the man from the clinched teeth.
