Re ports from Little Canada, a village of three . hundred people, seven miles from here, indicate- that a cyclone struck that place with; full force. Near Lake Gervaine, a widow named Mullaneyand her four children, the eldest a boy of eleven years, ran to the shores of the lake when they saw the storm cloud approaching. The swift rolling cloud picked up the little family and in its embrace they were carried out into the lake and drowned. Between 4 :45 and 5 o'clock the boat man at Lake Kolhmans met sixteen row boats, each of which carried from two to five persons, and only four of the sixteen have returned. In - a few "moments the news was abroad : that an excursion boat with over two hundred people on it was capsized in the middle of Lake Pepin. liic uvixi watt uic bictiuici oca vv nig, which came down the lake from Dia monds Bluff, a small place seventeen miles north of Lake City. ' The work of pulling in the, wreck of the boat was commenced as soon as it was light enough to see this morning. An array of men were employed, and with the aid of axes and picks, a large portion of the cabin top was knocked away at an early hour. At 11 o'clock $ix bodies were taken from the cabin, and there are still more deeper down under the water. The lake is filled with debris from the wreck- chairs, boards and life pre servers strewn on the beacli for a mile up the lake shore. Hundreds of. citi zens of Lake, pity .flocked to the shore, among them a many friends and , rela tives of the missing ones whose bodies are still beneath the water. The gen eral opinion j Is that the estimate of the loss of 125 lives will be verified. St. Paul, Minn., July : 14.
