To day the entire press of the State could not cause the defeat ot Vance or auy other man if . the farmers want him. On the other hand, the entire press of the State could not cause the re-election of any man opposed by the far mers. Why? Simply because the far mers will not be led by the - nose any longer. If the farmers of this State want Senator Vance in. the Senate another term all the papers, with the aid of the Progressive Farmer could nqt prevent their voting for his re-election. The papersi in the State that have any influence with" the farmers are few in : number. Many : of them have opposed the organization- of the farmers openly or. secretly j and not a few have basely slandered the men and women who compose the Alliance,:and have not hesitated to throw: obstacles in the way of the. organization by .any amount of manufactured falsehoods. No, the men and women who belong to the Alliance are -doing -their own thinking and the result will be seem hereafter. . The howls of the subsid ized press are no more to the thinking men and women of the Alliance than the croaking of frogs. So far as our acquaintance extends the Democratic editors of North Caro lina are honorable, independent gen tlemen, and are honestly , and intelli gently working to promote the best interests of the whole people-of the State. They are fully cognizant of the fact that the tillers of the soil . consti tute a majority of our inhabitants, and that agriculture is our chief depen dence. They are not opposed to ti e farmers openly or secretely. Tliey have no desire to injure the farmers, but rather to do what they can to help them. The charge that the press is sub sidized is the height of absurdity. The editors are not wallowing in affluence Most of them find it difficult to get enough money to make both ends meet. They earn legitimately all they receive, and earn a great deal they i:cci . i :.eylj iure wuri un- The following is an extract from a letter writ ten by the World Renowned Evangelist: "I returned from Tyler,.
