Reports have been circulated by persons opposed to the improvement that 550,000 will not be enough to put in a system of waterworks for Oxford, but that the cost will reach from $100,000 to $200,000. State Pair. ; - The State Fair in 1&89 was as good as anybody could have wished. It had a crowd of new features; it was conducted with a great deal of sysjtem and order; so much so that there was not a single arrest durfrig the whole week, and nothing was Jost or stolen. It was meant to be a Fair for the people, and the people' recognized it as such, and gave it a very liberal pat ronage. The management proposes this year to make it superior in every Way; to the last. It is to embrace new features of special interest to the farmer, the mechanic and the educ ator. At the same' time, the means of proper amuse ment will not be neglected. Negotia tions have already been completed for, some of the best and most unique entertainments ever offered to the public, and the grounds will be crowd ed with shows and curiosities, equal ing any that has ever been seen in the couutrv. The low rate of tare makes it possible for everybody to come, and the abundant crops which: the season now promises, will make it a matter of duty for our people to come togeth t r for a week's holiday and happiness.
