transacted by the Senate Saturday was
the passage, of the bill appropriating
5,000,000 for the immediate purchase
of nickel ore and nickel molte, by the

The Charlotte Chronicle says: The
Queen City Shoe Company now has
its shoe factory in full operation . and
expects soon to ' be turning out one
hundred pairs of shoes per day.
There are about thirty hands employ
ed in the factory, and everything is

now in North Carolina, a 1 increase o
359 since January 7. lnis is not so
great as the increase in 1889, but this
year the various alliances have gained
new. members, so that there is a great
increase in the order. The cam has
been largely in the west.

Tenn., suspended Saturday morning.
It was a State bank with a capital of
5?o,ooo. President White has made
an assignment of all his personal prop
erty for the benefit of his creditors.

The News-Observer of yesterday
says: The citizens of Raleigh and
Odd Fellows will together give Grand
Sire Busbee a reception at the Yar
boro House on Tuesday night, 30th
inst. Speeches of congratulation will
be made by the Governor, the Mayor,
Rev. Dr. Sanderlin and others, and,
in behalf of the Odd;Fellows of North
Carolina, a beautiful emblematic jewel
will be presented by Rev. Dr. J. H.
Corden. Arrangements are being made
for a joyous occasson. It is expected
that man v Odd Fellows from other
portions of the State will be present.

having caught with hook and line six
fish, which weighed twenty-five pounds,
in a creek which flows through this
township into Roanoke river.
- . A few deer are occasionally seen
around here, ani foxes are beginning
be troublesome. We . heard a few
days since of a drove of foxes attack
ing a man and his horse hear the line
of Person and Gran ville counties, and
might have seriously or possibly fatally
injured both, but for the timely assis
tance of a neighbor who happened to
be passing in that direction.
During a recent visit to Bellevue,
the pleasant country home. of Mr. pnd
Mrs. L. Ei Amis,we were shown a
most beautiful picture, of a group of
sunflowers,! painted from nature by
Miss Sue Hall, the highly accomplish
ed art teacher of the Granville Insti
tute. The general execution of the
painting will at once convince the be
holder that it is the work of a skilled
and gifted hand. It was presented to
Mrs. Amis by Miss Hall as a souvenir,
of a visit during the heated term of
last summer. ;i

condition of Uie market admits of
very little variety in these reports. It
continues very dull with only occasion
al sales. Order buyers have taken a
package of wrappers riearjy every day
this week, but they are very fastidious
and have abundant material to choose -
from.. Sellers evince very little dispo
sition to cut prices on desirable goods,
consequently the market maintains a
firm position, although it is so dull.
Deliveries continue in excess of re
ceipts and our stock is steadily decreas-
