Durham Dramatic The article bejow is from our breezy 1 contemporary, the Durham Globe. 1! our neighbors pay Uxtord a visit, we can promise them a most cordial welcome and an audience that will pack, the house. The Globe understands that several of the young people, of Durham, in whose veins the histronic talent has been flowing forever and for aye, have concluded that they will organize a home dramatic company and paralyze the people with some real acting. We can stand it, maybe, if the actors dnd actresses can, and then we want the company to go to Oxford and even up with them for what thev did in the way of deceiving us. A home dramatic company might with profit do this: Present about two plays for the benefit of the poor of Durham. A1. Large Audience Delighted -vih Liittle Lord Fanntleroy. There was a very large audience .at the Opera House last night, and it was composed of the best people of Oxford. Nearly every seat on the lower floor was occupied. Little Mabel Paige, a very pretty and clever child of eight . years, per sonated the "Little Lord," and car ned the part surprisingly well consid ering her age. Her acting was grace ful and charming, and everybody was delighted with her. Harry Lindley, as "Hobbs, the Grocer," was also a favorite, and created much laughter. The other characters were well taken. The company as a whole is a good one. "Little Lord Fauntleroy"" will be repeated this afternoon at a matinee, to give all the school children of the city an opportunity to enjoy it. Of this play the Norfolk, Va., Landmark, of recent date,- says : "Harry Lindley and his excellent company appeared last evening ai the Academy of Music in tv.s own drama, 'The Castaways to a crowded house. Mr. Lindley is an olcl Virginiafavorite and his reception last evening was very cordial. The piece is full of mirth," including several appropriate specialties. The seep ic effects ;were the best seen on our. stage for years, the ship wreck being most natural and received great applause. Little Mabel won both the hands and hearts of the audience with her songs and dances. Mr. Lindley's support was ood throughout. Mr. Chapman and Miss rialtord deserving special mention. A return date is promised by the management, winch will be a treat to our theatre goers." mm m : Religious Services Tomorrow. Baptist Church. -9:45 a. m. Sun day school. 1 1 a. m- sermon by Rev. J.
