PITlitlSHKR'S NOT The Day reappears, asjthe people of Oxford say they want it and can not well do without it. As will be noticed at the head of this" column I am publisher of the paper, and H. W, Kronlieimer will 'have entire control of the editoriadepartment. It is necessary to reduce the size of the paper at least during the summer months until the patron age justifies restoring it to its form er dimension. There will, however, be no curtailment of reading mat ter just as much will be given as before. t The publication of The Day will be continued so long as it receives sufficient support to keep it afloat. We do not expect to make a for tune out of it we cannot run it if it does not pay expenses. We are anxious to make it a success and a means of building up Oxford, and we will do our best in this direction if our hands are upheld. John T. Brut. DAY AGAIN. Night, so far as this paper is con cerned, lasted a little over three weeks, and behold The Day again ! Although a column-to-the-page smaller and under a different pub lisher, it is the same old Day. It will be conducted the same as in the past giving the local news that is printable in the strictest sense and excluding everything unfit to be read aloud in' the. family circle; doing its level best for the progress of Oxford, and preaching Democracy as the ark of political safety for the Southern whites. What more can I say, except that it gives me pleasure to be back at my old post and that I am thankful for the many evidences of appre ciation of my work. I H. W. KRONH ELMER. i Marion Butler, president of the State Alliance, e-xpresses himself as being pleased with the nomination of Elias Carr for governor, and says he will lead the ticket to victory. So far as the State is concerned the Democracy is safe enough. The third party will take a hand in na tional politics and promise to make trouble. The Republicans are en couraging these hotheads, Xhe Winston Sentinel says that there is an understanding between some of the newspaper men that Raleisrh is not to o-et the next State Democratic convention, as it can not furnish a hall large enough for such a meeting and has not suffi cient hotel accommodations for the I delegates. 'Ex-Representative Eppa Hunton has been appointed by Gov, Mc Kinney to the place in the Senate made vacant by the death of Sena tor Barbour. Gen. Fitzhugh Lee was mentioned for the office, and will probably get it when the legis lature assembles. Our schools are doing themselves proud, and Oxford is proud of jlier schools. .Sen. Carlisle Couldn't Come. I Senator J. G. Carlisle, of I?n tucky, was .unable to be at Chapel Hill Wednesday, to the great disap pointments his many North Caro lina admirers. He was widely ad vertised to deliver an address before the graduating class. The following letter was- received from him by President Winston, of the Univer sity : Dear Sir : 1 have been quite ill for several days, but hoped to be out this morning. My jihysieians, how- J ever, advised me last evening that 1 must not venture out to attend to j business for at least a week or ten! davs vet. This compels me to aban- j don a trip to Kentucky to attend to an important law case which was to before the University meeting in North Carolina. My purpose was to go from Kentucky to North Caroli na, but 1 will have to give up both visits. I send this to you at the earliest moment after receiving the doctors advice, in order that you may secure some one in my place. Yours truly, J. G. Carlisle. Horner School had arranged for an excursion train to Chapel Hill today, but gave it up on learning Sqn. Carlisle would not be there. , COMMENCEMENT CF TTUNTTY COLLEGE, AT TRINITY, N. C.
