j put his arm around a certain
|y«)iing lady’s waist (we won’t call
names) when .5he quietly re-
.‘J^ai-ked, “Don’ tyou do that, there’s
pin-back there. ’ ’ Of course there
'Was.
j ^SALVli.—We heard a young
say, yesterday evening some-
pUng about a new salve—“tue-lip,”
I^Vliy (loji’t you advertise it. If it
good we will deal it out. Ic re-
j^^inds us of g ssipv though*, It

—We are informed that the Tobac
co sold at the Oxford warehouses
has been bringing good market rates.
Some persons who have tried this
market have done even better than
they did at some of the larger
marlcet.s.

lilce'singing, but when it coines do
squealing and 3'elling we call, upon
our town authorities to'pnt a stop
to it. There is a part3" in the vicin

night hideous with their carousings.
It disturbs that lu igliborhood—it
disturbs us—we want it.stoj)[)cd.
Passion Wkkk.—This week is
known in the Church calender as
Passion Week. It began last Sur*-
day (Palm Sunday) from Christ’s
triumphant entry into Jerusalem on
that day, when the people cut off
palm branches and strewed them in
his way. It is called Passion Week
because it is devoted to the com
memoration of th( sullerings and
death of Christ.
Good Bkuaviou.—We chronicle
with much pleasure, the geiitiel be
havior of the i)upils connected with 1
the two male schools of this place. |
The fact reflects great credit on Mr. i
Horner and his Assistants and Prof. 1
Fetter, 'i'he patrons of ))otli ofj
those institutions are delighted witii j
the progress of the'r sons and liiey ;
are both patronized by some oftlie i
most intelligent citizens of the |
State. The energy*-,- zeal and abili- ^
t.y ofsuch teachers eminently'' de-|
serve su;'cess and we are gratified !
to state that both scliools contain a '
good’y numl)er of bright and pron)is-!
iiifv bo\'s.
A Bite.—We saw a little negro
boy 'get a bite ^yesterda}", and he
didn’t go a-fishing either. It w'as
on his leg and a little black dog
done'it, too. lie says “dog-gone it
all” he don’t li!:e such treatment.
It seemed to be “terrier”l)le cn

False Phophkt.—We learn that
it was pro[)hesied by several prona-
inent Republicaiis, in town yester-
j da}', that the Ci.aiuon would die in
\foiir days. 'I'hcy are, indeed trying
to put out our little llame in a iuirry,
but they^will find it a ditJlcult tiling
to do, as we have no idea of dying,
but intend to live many months, nay
years, ii“ for notliing else but to
[)Our an incessant stream of hot
shot into their fast decaying ranks.

We are iunn’med tliat on last Wel-

Iright Jat something and l);u ked otf,
turning the wagon i)ody over and
throwing tobacco, little l)oy, n.ules,
wago.n and all into Tar Piver.-—
One mule was injurel and the to
