THE iVlORNING CLARION. Democratic at all times. 'I'lIURSDAV - - Al'iai, 27, 1876. SPRING TIME. TJic love of the beantil'nl is a n;>- tiiral impulse that thrill«i all onr hearts aud brightens the gloom that shrouds tlie rough and rugged vrays of life. For all along the i>ath\vay, 1)0 it ever so drear and ]oneh% there springs up a Kttle ilower here, a blade of grass there, and sometimes H tiny wreath winds itself among | tlie gripping rocks to hide their | bleak and ragged looks—perhaps a i bird sits on the swinging bough and gladdens with its music the soul of tiie weary traveler ; or near by, a singing rill goes sweeping o’er its pebbly bottom, just in place to cool the fevered brow of the weary and worn. So in life, the way is often cheer.Hl by visions of beauty, scenes that are lovely to behold, and music wh030 strains sound very beautiful to us care-worn mortals. We have been reminded of these tilings by the coming of the rosy si>ring time, whose tiny l’’ootste[) j treads so lightly o’er lull and dale, mid, as siie goes, scatters flowers rich and rare witli which to grace the festi\ e scene, when she shall crown the blooming May (Jueen of Ihe season. Ah', very beautiful is the smile of God’s 1 A'e to the child ren of men-, when he gladdens their hearts witli the soft beaming sun light, the balmy winds, the spring ing flowers and the forest music of Spring-time. Truly there may be shadows upon the spirits of some of us which shut out many of the glo ries and sadden sonie of the notes of melody that would other\\ise burst iipon vs in all their accustomed radiance and harmony. But evfeu from such hearts, though crushed and broken tliey be, there steals up- an incense of praise and thanks giving to the tlirone ot tiieir Ma’;:er that the Spring time, the type of a tinal re-awakening, the joyous har> ger of “pence on earth and gced , i will tov/ards nien, ’ has come to point ! 'us to th.it world of fadeless light, | I wiiere it is one eternal Spring-time. ' ISSUE OF VERACITY. \ A few years ago a>i issue of ve- iracitv arose l)etween General ('Irant i • I I avid President Johiison in which tlie | ' former came out second best. Now i ; it seems an issue of veracity has I •' I arisen between (rrant and ex-Attor- nc}’ General "Williams. Between the two latter it is hard to decide which is most entitled to credence. ! The course of the ex-Attorney Gen- ' eral has covered iiis name with j oblo(piy aud Grant’s record of late | years, in view of the disreputable j characters who luive controlled his | administration, has been under aj dark cloud of suspicion, wdnch is | gradually’ lowering over his head in ! darker and darker shades at every j new development of crime, among \ his subordinate^. His third term aspirations have l>een sliipwrecked i by the iniquities of his favorites, and if he retires from t!ie Presiden cy without ttie utter annihilation of | his own character, he may congrat- : ulate himself on a degree of good fortune greater than t!mt usnnlly vouchsafed to mortals.
