I know their teachers and parents felt proud of them. And I was glad that some of them were related to me. Dr. Sykes, of Wake Forest, delivered the medal given by the principal, Rev. L. L. Hudson, to Agnes Hunt, who averaged the highest mark on all studies during the session. Also a bible was given by the music teacher. Miss Blanche Cullum, to May Shearon for most improvement in music. At 1 o'clock the Governor arrived and the whole school marched out to receive the Chief Executive of our State. Governor Kitchin stood on porch where everybody in and out of doors could hear him, and he made one of the best speeches of his life. He tried to impress on the minds of the young the importance oi an edu cation. Everybody was invited out to dinner at 2 o'clock, and such a table it was 80 feet long and full of good things from one end to the other. We ate all we could but couldn't help leaving ham and chick en to be carried back home. In the afternoon the boys enjoyed playing a lew games of base-ball. Again at 7:30 o'clock the house was packed. and we were well entertained until 10:30 o'clock. Had anthems by the school, recitations, duets, drills, plays etc., sometimes they would have us laughing and then crying. Every body pronounced it one of the best entertainments of the kind they ever attended. The parents said they only hoped they could get the same teachers next session; no one would take more interest in their children. Rev. L. L. Hudson, and Misses Flor ence and Blanche Cullom have done a faithful years work, and their ser vices have been appreciated. D. Y. Hunt.
