Simmons' Voting Record. As Governor Kitchin and his friends continue to misrepresent Senator Simmons' record we herewith print an extract from Senate Document No 275, showing how many times t acit Democratic Senator voted with the Republican majority in the first ses sion of the Sixty-second C-jngress on the reciprocity and tariff bills Gov. KitcLin's charge is that Simmons voted 19 times against the Democratic majority daring the past twelve years that he lias been in Congress Gov. Kitcbin says that most of the votes were cast at the first session of the 62; i Congress. In his speeches here and elsewhere Mr. Kitchin neglected to give the facts as set forth in the record below, show ing how many times each Democratic Senator voted with the Republicans. He did not state that Senator Sim mons was voting for lower duties, as in fact he was; he did not state that Simmons was voting against the Re publican majority, as in fact he was; he did not state that Simmons was voting with that small band of Pro gressive Republicans, composed of such men as LaFollette, Cummins, Borah, Clapp and Bristow, and in the speech referred to the Governor simply contented himself with attacking Sim mons without stating what the ques tions were that were being voted on in the large number of cases that he attacked him. While here Kitchin said that Over man had been performing his duty. This record shows that Overman voted with the Republican majority 24 times while Simmons did so only 11 times If Overman was faithful to the party how much more so was Simmons? This record is taken from a document official in its character and published by authority of the Senate. There can be no doubt about these figures and in the face of it it would seem that the Governor and his friends would dis continue their attacks on Simmons tariff record. Where is there a man who doubts that if Kitchin wereto-dav opposing Overman for the Senate he would publish this record broadcast over the State and say that Overman had been unfaithful to the party while bimmons had voted correctly? But this year it is Simmons wno stands in the way of Kitchin, and, therefore, the record must be perverted so as to serve the Governor's selfish political ends, following is the tabulated vot ing record of the Democratic Senator? in the Sixty-second session cut it out and pin it in your hat: Senator Simmons voted fewer times with the Republican majority than any Democratic Senator who was upon attendance of the whole session to the exclusion of one. It will also be seen that Senator Simmons voted a larger number of times against the Republican majority than any Democratic Senator who was in attendance upon the whole session to the exclusion of one. Senators Lee, Tiliman and Raynor were detained from the sessions by sickness. Mr. Percy was absent conducting his campaign in Mississippi almost, the entire session. Mr. Terrell resigned without voting at this session at all. Mr. Tornton missed 22 roll calls. APPLICATION FOR PARDON TOM HESTER. Notice is hereby given that applica tion will be made to the Goyernor of North Carolina for the pardon of Tom Hester, convicted at the July Term, 1911, of the Superior Court of Granville County of the crime of attempting to commit rape and sentenced lor a term of five years on the roads of Granville County. All persons who oppose the granting of said pardon are invited to forward their protest to the Governor without delay.
