That we tender to brother Suit our sincere sympathy in the hour of his affliction and we assure him that his grief is shared by every member of this lodge. 2. That a copy of these resolutions, under the seal of the Lodge, be for warded to brother Suit. 3. That the local papers be furnish ed copies hereof, with request that the same be published. Fraternally Submitted, F. CHAS. SPENCER, T. G. STEM. R. L, HAMILTON, Committee. Three hour3 of human labor were required to produce a bushel of wheat in 1830; now it requires 10 minutes. MILLS AND GRAIN ELEVATORS Recently some writer suggested that grain warehouses would pro mote grain production, in the South. Another took up the cue and urged that instead of warehouses the South should erect flour mills and grain elevators. That is the keynote. If we are to make the South a grain growing country again, and that is precisely what we should do, grain elevators would become necessary if we -should grow enough grain for ex port. Many of our cities would soon become grain markets and necessar ily grain elevators would have to be erected as a natural consequence. However, one of the South's first needs is modern flouring mills. Such mills have grain elevators, as a mat ter of course, when a large commer cial business is done. Establishments like that are called merchant mills, and Statesville, we believe, has the largest enterprise of that kind in North Carolina. In the western por tion of North Carolina a considerable quantity of wheat is grown and thero are a number of flour mills, but whether there are other merchant mills like those at Statesville it would be interesting to know. The Star. While digging up the earth in Ex change alley. New York City, work men unearthed a cannon of ths 1695 1783 period. To shoot a man with that kind of a cannon now would make him so mad he would tumble it over and drive a wire nail in the "touch hole." : RESOLUTIONS OF SYMPATHY i Hall of Oxford Lodge, No. 103. ;, I: O. O. F., Nov; 3, 1914, Our brother, John L. Suit, has been called upon to pass under the Rod. The Death Angel having taken from his home. Frances Elizabeth, his old est daughter and our brother mourns. She had lived long enough for her young life to be entwined about the hearts of their fathers and mother, only being five and one half years old, and having been taken from them, means more than we together as brothers can understand. Our or der teaches us not only to bear the burdens of each other, but likewise share our .brothers sorrow. 1 We de sire to assure brother Suit and family our svmnathv and to record an ex- 1 pression of sorrow. - " Go to OWEriWAREIKIQIlJSEfor Highest Prices Some High Averages: Hal Wagstaff , 56 lb3. at $15; 96 at $22; 112 at $45; 116 at $26; 68 at $22; 60 at $15 1-3.
