After spending eighteen years of his life on the farm in the southern part of Granville, part of which time he attended the public schools, Mr. John W. Hester went to Oak Ridge Institute and in three years was ready to enter the University of North Carolina. He graduated from the University in 1909 with the de gree of Bachelor of Arts, after which he taught for four years at Oak Ridge. In 1910 and 1911 he at tended the Summer Law School at the University and in February, 1913 was licensed to practice law. Since April, 1913, when Mr. Hester came to Oxford he has not only been suc cessful as a lawyer- but has been closely indentified with the life and welfare of the community. He has taken an active interest in the prog ress of the town in which he lives, thus becoming known as one of its wide awake citizens. Although he is young he has proved himself to be an able lawyer in the short time he has been engaged in the practice. In spite of the fact that love is popularly supposed to be blind, it is sometimes looking for trouble. . It's all right to give the devil his due, but don't over-pay him. AMPLE HYDRO ELECTRIC POW ER FOR ALL INDUSTRIAL PURPOSES. Plenty of Power to Operate the Lar gest Manufacturing Plant to the Smallest Enterprise. Nowadays the first thing a pros pecting manufacturer wants to know when heis contemplating locating in a town is whether he can get at a reasonable cost, sufficient power to operate his plant, to these we would say that no town anywhere can offer any more power than Oxford or at any better rates. The Carolina Power & Light Com pany with its huge hydro electric power plants at various points in the State, enters our town. They have the faculities to generate 40,000 horsepower. This power is at pres ent used by the Oxford Cotton Mills one of the largest manufacturing plants in Oxford and numerous small plants use it to a great advantage. We are safe to say that no man ufacturer need hesitate to come to Oxford if it is electric power he needs to propel his machinery. The Caro lina Power & Light Company will furnish all the power any plant may need, whether it be a million dollar cotton mill or a corn mill. ' The Carolina Power & Light Com pany came to Oxford about five years ago buying out the franchise and plant o fthe Oxford Electric Co., which was owned by private citizens. The electric service given Oxford by the Carolina Power & Light Co., is as near continnous as is possible to get. When there is trouble it is always remedied as soon as possible. Manufacturers are safe to trust their needs for power in the town of Ox ford inthe hands of the Carolina Power & Light Co. In the Carolina Power & Light Co. and its service we see one of the greatest building forces in the town. We expect to see the day when the surburbs of Oxford will be litterally covered with busjT" manufacturing plants while the Carolina Power & Light Co. will have a large and profi table street car system with inter urban lines reaching Henderson and Durham. There is ample power here for all industrial purposes, industries. We want more NO DUST ON THIS LIVE MFG. PLANT. Ideal Manufacturing Co., a Busy Firm With Growing Business.
