Professor Suess, the Austrian authority thinks that America, Rus sia and China will be survivors on mundane stage when all but them have disappeared, while Professor Stein, of the University of Rerne, in Switzerland, says that America, Eng land and (lermany will prove to be the predominant factors in the next age. President Roosevelt's succession leaves the United States Vice-Presidency vacant. William P. Frye, of Maine, remains president pro-tem, of the Senate. Seven "reform" parties have deter mined to combine to form a great union party, which seems to be de signed to play a part as heir and chief legatee of the Populists. The dele gates at Kansas City voted to call their motley organization "The Allied Party." which means about as much to most men as if it were - called the Know Nothing party. It is the Allied party of persons who write them selves down reformers, and who would begin their reforms by tearing down the pillars which support the present social and economic order. W. T, Wesson,- Gholsonville, Va. drug gist, writes: "Your One Minute Cough Cure gives perfect satisfaction. My custom ers say it is the best remedy for coughs, colds, throat and lung troubles." J. G. Hall. THE LESSON OF A LIFE. Of the many admirable eulogies of President McKinely spoken on the day of his burial, none was more seriously impressive thau the tribute paid to him by Ex-President Cleve land. No man living could under stand so well the official exactions of the President's olfice, but it was upon the personal character of McKinley that he dwelt, and speakiug to college students, he gave the lesson of his career a special application to them. The point he particularly emphasiz ed was that not study alone nor the accumulation of learning would lead a man usefulness and success. Essen tial as education is, it is nothing without character. What we hear of McKinley is that he Avas an honest upright man man, as son, as hus band, as citizen; "truthful, generous, unselfish, moral and clean in every relation of life" and never thinking "any of these things too weakfor his manliness." Make no mistake, said this grave man of affairs to the boys at Princeton: "Here was a most distipguished man, a great man, a useful man, who became distinguish ed, great and useful because had and retained unimpaired, qualities of heart which I fear university students sometimes feel like keeping in the back-ground or abandoning."
