I bequeath to my children Scrofula with all its
attendant horrors, humiliation and suffering. This is a
strange legacy to leave to posterity ; a heavy burden to
place upon the shoulders of the young.
This treacherous disease dwarfs the body and hinders
the growth and development of the faculties, and the
child born of blood poison, or scrofula-tainted parentage,
is poorly equipped for life's duties.
Scrofula is a disease with numerous and varied
Sj'mptoms ; enlarged glands or tumors about the neck
and armpits, catarrh of the head, weak ej-es and dreadful
skin eruptions upon different parts of the body show the
presence of tubercular or scrofulous matter in the blood.
and stealthy disease entrenches itself
the bones and tissues, destros the red
white swelling, a pallid, waxy appearance of the skin, loss of strength and
a gradual wasting away of the body.
S. S. S. combines both purging
lost properties to the blood and quickens the circulation, bringing a healthy
color to the skin and vigor to the weak and emaciated body.

The Present Legislature.
Mr. A.. J. Maxwell, Chief Clerk of
the Senate, writing to hia paper, the
Anfrlo Saxon, says: "There are some
listinuisbins features of this legis
lature. The most notable Is the pre
dominance of the young men. But
there fa an abundance of good tal
ent, sense and experience. It is made
up more largely of men of one politl
cal faith than any which has assem
bled since the war. There was some
thing said a few days ago about its
being "drunk with power." lint
nothing could be said which was
farther from the truth. Its conser
vatism is most uotable. Instead of
being 'drunk with power.' it rather
appears to have been sobered by a
sense of its power. This is always
true of sensible men when entrusted
with authority."

Kissing Girls.
Some folks may recall the fact that
a few years ago a collection of rather
amusing stanzas of doggerel went
the rounds of the press on kissing.
These stanzas purported to give
briefly, if not poetically, the manner
In which the fair damsels of various
cities go throusrh an osculatory per
formance, and they were interesting,
at least to those of the male persua
sion. Recently a Peoria (Ills.) "poet"
has constructed some doggerel aloDg
similar lines which are decidedly cute.
Here they are:
"The PEORIA girl says never a word,
And you'd think she was rather
tame
With her practical view of the matter
in hand,
But she gets there just the same.
"The ABINGDON girl the pride of
the State,
In her clinging and cheerful way.
Absorbs it all with a yearning look
As sweet as the new-mown hay.
"The EL.GIN girl gets a grip on her
self As she carefully takes off her hat,
And grabs 'em up in a frightened
way,
Tiike a terrier shaking a rat.
"The CHICAGO girl on tiptoe stands,
Her lips so rosy, tempting and red;
You take her cheeks in both your
hands
And let her go M urphy Gallagher's
dead.
"The KANKAKEE girl catches a
man's mustache
With a grip as tight as glue;
And opening a little her ruby lips,
Pulls the kiss on like a shoe."
AVlth due apologies to the Peoria
poet, I would like to add the sub
joined doggerel to his outburst:
The CONCORD girl wastes no time
on frills.
Nor does she stickle for style,
She grabs her admirer around the
neck
And the "smack" can be heard a
mile.
The CHARLOTTE girl, in her sweet,
trustful way,
Takes 'em slow, as her soft lips
quiver,
A soft light in her eye, and a prayer
aud sigh
"That this rapture could last for
ever!" The II A HEIGH girl takes careful aim
For fear the mark she'll miss,
Then throws back her head, shuts
her eyes
And gurgles "Oh joy! Oh, bliss!"
The WILMINGTON girl is the girl
for me,
It's achance o'er which she'll gloat;
She gathers her skirts, with a cry of
glee,
And jumps rlghtdowu your throat.

A Hothers Recommendation.
I have used Chamberlain's Cough Remedy
for a number of jenrs and have no hesitancy
in sn-lng that it is tbe best remedy for
coughs, colds and cro ip I ha- e ever used in
my fam ly I have not words to express my
confidence in this remedy. Mrs. J. A.
Moore, North Star, Mich, All Druegist,
Greatest Thing in the World.
The love of a man for a maid has
been sung in song and extolled in
story from time immemorial; the de
votion of a mother for a child has
been held by novelists and dramatists
to be "Th. Greatest Thing in the
World," but it remained for a recent
American writer to pi.iat out the
greatest of all love the love thaten
dureth forever, viz: the love of a
father for h?s daughter. The writer
In question, H. T. Peck, says tills, in
his contrlbutioa to the February
Cosmopolitan:
"The love of a farther for his daugh
ter is, I think, the very purest love
that earth can know, the love that
conies the nearest to what we all
imagine the divine love to be. The
love of a husband for his wife wh n
it enduivs the storm and stress
which mark the period of mutual
adaptation, is wonderfully beautiful;
yet It had its birth in passion, and
the memories of its early years re
main to keep it very human The
love that is given to a father or
mother is strong and deep and last
ing; yet it lacks the exaltation and
supreme emotion which are neces
sary to the love that has no flow.
The love of a father for his son is in
tense and overmastering; yet there
is a touch of personal pride, of al
most conscious egoism, in it, which
renders it not wholly selfless and
serene. But the love of a father for
the girl child who has been born to
him Is more than any other love on
earth, in its purity, its unalterable
constancy, its power of self-sacrifice,
its profound delight, and its Infinite
tenderness."
And the father, who can gaze
fondly upon the baby girl nesting In
his arms, or hear the patter of the
tiny feet and the exultant cry of de
light as she toddles forward to the
door to welcome "daddy" home,
will exclaim, with Lord Byron, "He
calls this love, and It is, love."

You Will Be Happy if Well.
Paine's Celery
Compound
Bestows that Health and
Vigor that Makes Liv
ing a Pleasure.
If you are sick and out-of-sorts, it is in your
power to make yourself healthy, strong, and
happy.
There is not the slightest reason why you
should go through life feeling sickly, miserable,
languid, and melancholic. To be well and
strong, means happiness and true joy.
If you are sleepless, rheumatic, neuralgic,
dyspeptic, or have the shadows of disease
hovering over you; if you are not as bright,
energetic, and strong as you were some weeks
ago, the use of Paine's Celery Compound will
tone up and fortify your whole system, cleanse
the blood, correct digestion, sharpen the
appetite, and conduce to restful sleep. Thous
ands once in a half-dead condition owe their
present good health to the use of Paine's
Celery Compound. Mr. Wm. S. Gibson, of
Pleasureville, Ky., who, through sickness and
suffering, was brought near the dark grave,
writes as follows, regarding his marvelous
cure :
" I have been broken down in health and
strength, nervous system shattered, kidneys
out of order, had nervous and trembling spells
off and on for the last ten years. I have taken
three bottles of your Paine's Celery Compound
and all of the above-mentioned troubles have
left me, and I can now do a good day's work.
I go about my business all day long and it
don't worry me, and I now feel better than I
have in ten years. I have a good appetite,
and can eat and get around on foot as active
as when I was a boy. . My age is 65 years."
