That we cheerfully take back any goods that are not satisfactory and do not ask you to take something else but give back your money. WASH GOODS. As early as last fall we have been buying for this de partment and in doing so have shown our good judgment, for many of the fabrics shown cannot be duplicated at near the price. We are selling them according to the price bought at then. Ginghams are again very popular and we were fortunate in early buying to se cure the latest patterns and styles. EMBROIDERIES and LACES. While our buyers were in New York they picked up a special lot of Hamburg Edgings that we are going to make quick sellers of and will offer while they last at io, 2 and 15 goods that are worth more money. Another special assortment is a line of imitation torchon laces, beautiful in design and finish, all to be sold at quick moving figures. HOUSE FURNISHINGS. Specially interesting to housekeepers are some of the prices we are making in Table Damasks, Towels, Napkins, White Guilts, Drapery, Silkolines. Shoes for the young and old and all at lowest pi ices to insure a good wearing shoe. CLOTHING. Every man and boy wants a nice spring suit of clothes that fits well, looks well, wears well and can be sold at a reas onable price. We have them. The ordinary clothing has nothing in its favor except its price and when the usual poor fit and wearing qualities are taken into consideration, it really isn't worth what it costs, either to the dealer or to the wearer. This is so be cause it loses its shape and fit after a short time, becomes shabby and makes the wearer dissatisfied with his purchase. Business isn't built through making dissatisfied customers. It is built through making sat isfied ones. That is just what our brands of clothing does. AVilmlngton Star. You talk about the trust magnates and monopoly manipulators buying up the government omclais, but wno ever heard before Mr. Hearst came Into the race for the presidency of a man openly offering to buy his way Into the highest office In the land? Were Mr. Hearst a fit man for the office his conduct since the beginning of his campaign has been enough to damn him In the estimation ot an honest and decent people. Wilming ton Messenger. The New York World makes the point that If President Roosevelt had such a Congress to confront as Pres ident Johnson had, the usurpation of law-making power involyed In the recent pension order would cause the Executive to be impeached and con victed bv a large majority. Not only is that true, in our opinion, but if Johnson had done what Mr. Roose velt did in disregarding the Spooner law concerning the Isthmian canal proposition, Impeachment and con viction would have been an immedi ate result. This Congress seems dis posed to swallow any Indignity the the President chooses to put upon it Any township which has good roads, good schools, rural mall de livery, school libraries, the rural tel ephone. farmers' clubs, and a good newspaper in every farmer s nome well. In such a neigh Dornooa a man can live twice as long in five years as he could In a slow, unprogresslve community without these advant ages. In a neighborhood making these improvements, land will In crease in price; neignDors win De more neighborly; there will be more contentment fuller lives; the neigh borhood will win a reputation for intelligence and enterprise that will make Its residents proud of their cit izenship; and a new and statelier type of man will be developed men broadened by a closier touch with the world of men and business and let ters, but without the bustle and grind that keep the city man a slave to business, living a superficial life. Progressive Farmer. If ever there was a time in the his tory of the Democratic party when united action was necessary, it Is now. Matters that may be demon strated as personal must, In the in terests of party success, be relegated to the background. The little disa greements between men who have been party leaders should not be con sidered seriously by the delegates who will be sent to participate in the St. Louis convention. This is the time when all past differences should be forgiven and forgotten. The rank and file of the party have the right to demand this, to the end that a great Democratic victory In Novem ber be assured. The country today needs the Democratic party, and needs it badly. All the patriotic and conservative forces which co-operate with it are needed, too. In view of this necessity It is Incumbent that in significant strife and petty quarrels be entirely obliterated. No matter how strong the lssaes which the Democratic party will embody In its platform may be, if there exist a lack or unity the chances of hnai success are small. If we present a solid and unbroken front the cause of Jeffer son, and the cause of the people are bound to triumph. AshevlJIe Citizen. A Good Citizen Who Stays at Home. Mr. Daniel Sink, a well known and prosperous farmer living Just across Forsyth and Davidson county line, tells us a remarkable record concern ing himself. Mr. Sink is GO years old, has never seen the Yadkin river, liv ing only 12 miles from it; has never been over 28 miles from home and has never rode on the train. He has reared a family of eight children, has always raised plenty and to spare; is a member of the Reformed church and is an industrious and highly re spected citizen, serving his day and generation honestly and conscien tiously, with good will toward all men. Winston Republican. This Story Told by a Preacher. Rev. C. L. Hoffman, formerly rector of St. Peter's Episcopal church here, and now living in Lincolnton tells of a strange tribute that is paid to "Big" John Heavner, a farmer who was killed a short time ago on his farm near Lincolnton, by the falling of a tree. It is declared that for 13 years he never saw the face of his oldest daughter. She was born In the night, and for 13 years after her birth Mr. Heavner pursued, each day his habit of arising before day light and not returning until after dark. One night his daughter dressed care fully, eat up late and was introduced to her father. All persons who have doubts about this matter are re spectfully referred to Mr. Hoffman. ablic 0pirioI i' He Gave Up. A darkey in Alabama was once brought Into court on account of a comparatively pretty offense. hen the clerk of the court began the reading of the charge, which be gan with the usual form, "The State of Alabama against Ezekiel Jenkins," the culprit evinced signs of amaze ment and terror.
