Currln much Improved from his recent at tack of sickness, and hope he will continue to Improve until fully re stored to his usual health. We have recently had built at the County Home a nice small chapel and will be glad If the ministers of our county would occasionally hold reg ular services therein. C. F. That love .may live for years and die not was amplified one day last when Mr. William Whltted ana Mrs Anna Weldon renewed an affair of 30 years ago and culminated It. They went to Salisbury from east Tennes, see and went to Greensboro to live, Their story Is an interesting one. 30 years ago they were sweethearts and as some folks just will, they fell out and were separated for lo, these many years. Both married other lovers and both lost them by death. Last fall Mr. Whltted learned that his youthful sweetheart was a widow and lived in Tennessee. They began to write and soon renewed the en gagement, broken In their young lives, and Tuesday settled the matter for good. The two are now beyond middle age but were as devoted as they were when their loye affair was called off. Buggy Body Factory and Kingsbury Property Change Hands. Wednesday was quite a live day In the trading line as two Important real estate deals were made. Messrs. H. G. Cooper and R. S. Usry purchas ed from Mrs. Florence Pugh.of Balti more, the old Kingsbury homestead now occupied by Mrs. R. P. Hughes. It has not yet developed what the purchase means.but a number of peo ple have expressed the wish that It is for the purpose of building an up-to-date hotel with stores underneath. The other deal made was the pur chase of the Buggy Body Plant in West Oxford, owned by Messrs. Isaac Harris & Son, by Messrs. R. S. Usry and Hlllman Cannady. This factory is already doing a good business and It Is the intention of the new owners to greatly enlarge its capacity in or der to supply the demands for the excellent class of bodies manufac tured. The Franchise of Home Telephone Co. Granted for 15 Years, etc. - The Town Commissioners held quite an Interesting meeting Monday night in the Mayors office and was largely attended. After a few minor things were attended to Chairman Stediuan, of the Street Committee, made an excellent rvportof the work done on the streets during the past month, and we ari pleased to know that the Commissioners are turning their attention to the sidewalks in stead of altogether to the streets. In giving the town good sidewalks our most excellent Board of Commission ers should be mindful of the greatest good to the greatest number. Every body uses the sidewalks the work ing man on his way to the factory, prize house or warehouse, the dear children on their way to 6chool, citi zens to and from their homes and business. The whole town is bene fitted by good side walks and no more macadamizing should be done until the side walks are put in good condition, as the Interests of those who ride has been well looked after. Mr. F. C. Toepleman, Superintend ent of the Home Telephone Company and one of the best telephone men In in the South, was present with Gen. B. S. Royster, attorney for the Com pany, and petitioned the Commis sioners for a renewal of the franchise in Oxford which will soon expire. Gen. Royster read the clear cut pe tition of the company and after con siderable discussion the Board grant ed the franchise for 15 years Instead 30 years as first asked for. The Board acted wisely in granting the franchise If the Interests of the peo pie as well as the company Is well guarded. While there has been much just criticism as to the night service we feel sure.thatSuperlntendentToe pleman under the renewed fran-' chlse will bring tne service up to a high standard and Oxford will enjoy as good telepnone service as any town In the State. But at present we must say that we need immediate relief as to the night service from our own experience. It is said that when the new sys tem is put in the rate will be increas ed, and the question is being asked will the excellency of service be cor r spondendly Increased?. As many of our citizens wish to put in private sewerage, and on applica tion to the Board through Mr. H1I1 man Cannady, a committee was ap pointed to see what it would cost to ernrjlov a competent engineer and survey the town for a general system OBITUARY. On February 10th. 190G, the death angel visited the happy home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson, of Dlckerson's cross ing, and claimed for Its own Graham Wilson. He was a bright young man and loved by all who knew him. He was only sick about 8 days when God saw fit to take him from this world of sorrow. We greatly sympa thy with the heart stricken father and mother and loved ones. May their thoughts be turned Heaven ward where Graham awaits them.' Rev: J. R. Pace made a beautiful talk at the funeral and left consoling thoughts to his loved ones. His remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Corinth church to await the r. surrectlon mourn. A precious one from earth has gone, A voice we love Is still; A place is vacant in our home Which never can be filled. In this dark world of sin and pain We only meet to part again, But when we reach the Heavenly shore, We there shall meet to part no more. Alone with Jesus O! how sweet to sit like Mary at his feet ; To look into his loving face And feel the touch of his hand. A FRIEND, RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT.
