The evening was moat pleas antly spent by all present and a nice sum realized- Some of. our boys had the lucky number and , drew hair oi the nice cake made i by Mrs. C. H. To the patrons of forty-one thous and R- F. D. Routes, winter is rap idly approachintg and the cold weather and rough roads are here. Patrons are expected to: stamp their mail or buy stamped en velopes. Carriers are not required to pick pennies from the box. You may expect your loose pennies and your mail to be left in your box. There are many who appreciate the service and stamp their mail, there are some who do not care how much trouble they give a car rier. Patron, friend, can you not buy 25 cents worth of stamps and 5 cards at the time? Many of you can, many of yau do. I sold one patron and a colored person at that $1.10 worth of stamps today This amount is more than many patrons have bought in eight years all told. Have the No. of the Route you live on put on all of your mail. It saves time and work at the office and insures prompt de livery. We are sorry some folks are ashamed they live on a mail route, you ought to be proud of the advantages it gives you. A Word of Explanation. About getting half of the cake. It seems that the number which drew the cake was called, and could not be found, then it was thought right, and it was right, to cut the cake in half and give half to the number above and half to the num ber below the number that was call ed. Mrs. Frazier, whose maiden nam was Knott, and sister, of Mrs. W. N. Critcher, died at her home Sat urday night near Person County, and was buried Monday afternoon at Mountain Creek Church. She was 70 years old and a good woman. We extend our sympathy to the be reaved. D.N. HUNT- Keep the Children Well . Dear Masons: To be proud that you are a mason, you need ondy to attend one afternoon Sunday service , at the Oxford Orphanage or a Thanksgiv ing service there Dear Odd Fellows: To be proud of your Odd Fel lowship, you need only to visit our splendid Orphanage at Goldsboro or know something of its workings as well as caring for the sick brether en at home. Dear Woodmen: It is worth much to meet to gether sometimes and to know we are -helping to support the widow and orphans of a deceased Brother Dear Junior Order: You too, are patternizing after Ihe rest and trying to do good in the world. To all of these orders this writer is a member except the last mentioned. I am sorry for the man who has to leave home every night or even three or four nights in the week to go to the lodge. He had better not belong to so many lodges or clubs and stay with his family some at night. Now, see the point I wish - to make. It is hoped that every hon-i.-st working man whether he be a member of any of these orders or not will be able to carry a quart of oysters home to his family at Christmas time. But, I deem it necessary and hereby so advise, for each of these orders to give an oyster supper . to the members about Christmas Eve. It need not be expensive, just an oyster supper, nothing to drink at all but good hot coffee. We might have two fat hens for these who do not like oysters. We might in vite the preachers to come, even those who are not members. This would be worth much to bring, the boys together and spend a social evening. What do you say boys? It will only take ten gallons of oys ters. Do not all speak at once, but when and where shall we have it? D. N. HUNT. Long-Winston Company offerinj 250 Barrels Flour.the good kind, at reduced prices.
