Hicks, spen? several days in Elizabeth City, N O., this week where they attended the marriage of Mr. William T. Minor to Miss Ettie Briggs Aydlett, Wednesday evening. Misses Belle and Lucy Thorpe.ar rived Saturday from Atlanta, Ga., and are guests of , Mrs. C. H. Landis. Friends of Miss Lucy Thorpe will be glad to learn that she is convalescent from a recent attack of appendicitis. Mr. C. A. Taylor, after spending several weeks at home recuperating from a recent illness has returned to Asheville, N. C. to resume his duties as Teller in the Exchange National Bank at that place. His friends will be glad to learn cf of his restoration to health. Friends in Oxford and Granville County will read with much in terest of the marriage of Missi Lula Lillian Knott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs- Rufus F. Knott, of Raleigh,to Mr. L. H. Morrow, of Greensboro, 1ST. C. Miss Knott resided in Ox ford until a few years ago, wher her family moved to Raleigh. Mr. Cortez Wright left for Washington City" last night, where he will resume his duties as chief clerk to the Senate Finance Com mittee. Mr. Wright is a bright young mam and is a loyal support er of Senator Simmons. Mr. James Taylor, the bright young son of Mr. R. P. Taylor, who represented Cluster Springs school in the debaters contest at Trinity College last week brought honor to his county by his excellent ad dress, notice of which will be found on another page. Buster Brown Yesterday. Buster Brown held down the board at the Perkinson-Green Company's store yesterday. It looked like every child in town was present, and enjoyed Buster Brown and Tige. The little fellow was a beau ty and very bright, and gave an amusing concert. Souvenirs were given away and all had a big time. Meeting of AVoman's Civic Club. The Woman's Civic Club will meet in the rooms of the Com mercial Club, next Tuesday after noon., the twelfth of December at half past three o'clock. Mrs. McKinncn,of Raleigh,will be in Oxford for a few days the lat ter part of this week to make ar rangements for the organization of s. Girls' Tomato Club. Each girl is to cultivate one-tenth of an acre in tomatoes and can her crop under the direction of the county director. One girl in Guilford last year made over $50 on her plot.
