You may talk about your Caesars and your Alexanders toov
Of your Greek and Roman legions as they dusted up the dew,
Of your heroes and your Hectors with performance superfine,
But you'll have to pass the banner to the boys that broke the line.
When the world was all atremble and the clouds were hanging grey,
And the dove of freedom fluttered on her pinions in dismay,
Then they loosed a streak of lightning from the land beyond the brine,
And it struck the Prussian eagle when the Yankees broke the line.
They saw the land before them furrowed deep with shot anej shell,
And the earth was all afire like the avenues of hell;
But they charged the Hun defense over bomb and bursting mine,
And it set the world ashouting ,when the Yankees broke the line.
They said it was impossible and never could be done; '
But the flag was quickly floating o'er the eagles of the Hun,

NAME FLYING FIELD POPE.
Aviation Field at Camp Bragg, Fay
etteville, Given Name of Man Who
Lost Life in Cape Fear.
The flying field at Camp Bragg,
Fayetteville ,has been named Pope
field by the war department in hon
or of First Lieutenant Harley H.
And the stars sang, "Hallelujah," -when the Yankees broke the line.
Like a tiger in the jungle when he pounces on his prey,
So, they leaped, upon his legions in the fury of the fray,
And it sent the chills achasing up and down the Boche's spine
And his knees began to tremble when the Yankees broke the line.
From 'York with its Niagara, from golden Tennessee,
From smiling Carolina soil that cradled Liberty;
From lands of cak and hickory, palmetto and of pine,
The Yankees they were mustered in to break the boasted line.
They fought like seasoned veterans, like warriors they fell; .
They stormed the battlements of death; they charged the gets of hejl;
And laid the haughty legionaires of Hindenburg supine;
And the world sang, "Yankee Doodle," when the Yankees bicse the line.
Before their chargef it melted, like the mist before the sun,
With a kamaradic fervor that's peculiar to the Hun;
And they opened up a boulevard from Bug to Brandywine
For the battle kings to travel, when the Yankees broke the line.
And when the boys come home again, we'll welcome them song,
Though tears may softly mingle with the usic of the throng;
We'll feed them on our canvas-back and best denatured wlnrr,
And hold a mighty jubilee for the boys that broke the line.
But when they broke that line, they broke" the Mason-Dixon, too;
Before the bonds of brotherhood it vanished in the blue,
And through the mist of coming years we'll join in "Auld Lang Syne"
And pray the Lord of Hosts to bless the boys that broke the line.
It is advised by the United Stat
es food administration that dealers
in refined sugar take steps at once
to replenish their stocks to avoid a
possible depletion of supplies during
the season of heavy buying. The au
thorities have warned dealers that
while there is no shortage, there is
no indication of lower prices and
that holding off might result in their
being unable to get their orders filled.

CALOMEL SALIVATES
AND MAKES YOU SICK
Acts Like Dynamite on a Sluggish
Liver and You Lose a, Day's

THere's no reason why a person
should take sickening, salivating cal

It is a pleasant, vegetable liquid
which will start your liver just as
surely as calomel, hut it doesn't

i Children and grown folks can take
Dodson's Liver Tone, because it is
perfectly harmless.
Calomel is a dangerous drug. It is
mercury and attacks your bones.
Take a dose of nasty calomel today
and you will feel weak, sick and nau
seated tomorrow. Don't lose a day'

Genealogy of the Germans.
The claim is made that the various
European nations have resulted from
a mixture of the original primitive
inhabitants with the Teutons who
overran them during the later migra
tions; but that in Germany, on the
other hand, Teutons were merely
mixed with Teutons, and fhus the
race here remained pure. In fact,
however, skeletons and other re
mains show conclusively that there
was a race of primitive inhabitants
in Germany as well, going back as
far as the diluvial period. At v the
time of the Cimric invasion and later
when the stream of the Teutonic mi
grations burst upon them, this popu
lation partly migrated, or at least
withdrew into the mountainous re
gions, partly perished and partly min
gled with the newcomers. A primi
tive population "dwelt here as well
as in the other European countries
at a time when the rhinoceros and
'the elephant still roamed through
Europe. Even as late as the twelfth
and thirteenth centuries the French
were the more likely to 'be called
Germans. Dr. G. F. Nicolai, in "The
