Dr. and Mrs. Thomas and Miss Virginia Carroll spent the week end in Danville. Mrs. Cleveland Thayer of Hen derson has been visiting Mrs. Will Landis. Mrs. R. G. Lassiter entertained the Thursday Bridge Club on Thurs day afternoon. Miss Elouise Horner attended the Marshals' Ball in Raleigh Fri day, night. Rose, Jr,, has returned from the northern markets, where he purchased largely for the Rose 5-10-25C Store. Mrs. L. F. Smith, Mr. Frank Smith and . Mrs. W. H. Walters were among the Oxford visitors to the Raleigh Fair Thursday. Mr. W. M. Pugh has accepted a position with the Bragg Hardware Co., Raleigh, and left Monday to take charge of their books. Quite a large number of people from Oxford attended the State Fair, enjoying also the game on Thursday and the Four week dances. Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Ray enter tained a few friends on Monday night. A game of Bridge was en joyed and delicious refreshments served. rV Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Howard en tertained on Saturday evening in honor of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Mitchell who have recently returned from their bridal tour. An exciting rme of Bridge was enjoyed after which elegant refreshments were served. f Mrs. D. A. The most important social event of the week is the reception by the Woman's Club to be given on Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. R. H. Lewis in honor of the teachers of the town. il II Mr. J. B. Collins, of Spencer, who lived in Oxford 30 years ago, passed through here yesterday on his way to visit his sister, Mrs. Geo. Wright, on the Oxford-Henderson road. Mr. R. W. Lassiter is in Rich mand, where he has had an opera tion on his hand for blood poison caused by the pricking of a brier. He is getting on nicely and expects to return home in a few days. The Neighborhood Bible Class met on Tuesday morning with Miss Isabel Parham. Mrs. D. K. Taylor opened with prayer and Mesdames C. G. Elliott and F. W. Hancock Jr., led a most instructive program. Mrs. F. B. Blalock entertained the Ladies Aid Society of the Bap tist Church on Monday afternoon. There was a laree attendance nH ! much interest shown in the business i of the Society. Elegant refresh ments were served by Mrs. Blalock. After spending a few days in Granville this week, looking after their old home place at Tar River, Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Crews have re turned to their home m Thelma. Many friends will be glad to learn that this fine old couple are enjoy ing good health. The Woman Auxiliary of St. Stephens Church held its annual United Thank Offering Meeting on Monday afternoon with Mrs. R. G. Lassiter. Mrs. J. C. Robards was Chairman of the program committee and a most interesting program was given. Mrs. H. G. The table was ar tistically decorated and place cards were arranged for twelve guests who enjoyed the elaborate course dinner served. After dinner, cards were enjoyed by the guests, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Hancock, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Howard, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Mays, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. B. S. Royster Jr., Misses Lillian Taylor, Dorothy Royster, T. W. Winston and Thomas Royster.
