A number of other New York mag- j ,agines have already moved to other j cities and others are talking of do- j ing so. The Curtis publications long j ago exploded the theory that New j York was the only place from which j a National magazine could be made ! a success. _ l j WORK WEARS ON THE KIDNFYS Doan’s Pills Have Done Great Ser vice For People YATio Work In Oxford. Many Oxford people work every day in some strained, unnatural po sition,—bending constantly over a desk—riding on jolting wagons or cars—doing laborious housework; lifting, reaching or pulling, or try ing the back in a hundred and one other ways. All these strains tend to wear, weaken and injure the kid neys until they fall behind in their work of filtering the poisons from the blood. Doan’s Pills are for weak kidneys and bad backs. Their ef fective work in Oxford is convincing proof of merit. Ask your neighbor’ Mrs. T. R. Frazier, 75 Broad St., Oxford, says: ‘My back just throb bed with pain and it was stiff and lame in the morning, which made it hard for me to dress. The longer I stood, the more tired I became. It was all I could do to get around to do my housework. It felt as though there were a weight tied around my waist, which was pulling me down. At times my kidneys acted irregular ly and my limbs were swollen. Spots floated before my eyes. It was Doan’s Pills, which I bought at the Lyon Drug Co., that relieved me of the misery.” Price 60c at all dealers. Don’t simply ask for a kidney remedy get Doan’s Pils—the same that Mrs. Frazier had. Foster-Milburn Co., Mfrs., Buffalo, N. Y. _ —Your battery should have water about evry two weeks. Stop at Ox ford Battery Co. THE HOUSE-WIFE Chocolate Eclairs Follow the same recipe for Cream Puffs—the only difference being in shape. When dropping the mixture on the greased pans, spread in length-wise shape instead of round. When baked fill with cream filling and cover with chocolate frostnig. Cream Pilling 1% cups of milk; 3 tablespoons sugar; 3 tablespoons cornstarch; 1 level tablespoon butter; % level tea spoon salt; 1 teaspoon vanilla; 1 whole egg. Mix flour, cornstarch and sugar, add to well beaten egg. Pour on the milk, heated to scalding.. Return to double boiler and cook until thick, let cool, add extract and fill cream puffs. Devil’s Food Cake. . 2 cups flour; 2 level teaspoons baking powder; 2 level teaspoons cinnamon; V2 of a nutmeg (grated); 1% cups granulated sugar; V2 cup sweet milk; % cup butter (scant); 2 whole eggs; 1 cup warm mashed potatoes; 2 squares chocolate( grat ed); 1 cup nut meats. Cream butter and sugar, add yolks (well beaten), then add mash ed potatoes, chocolate and nut meats, stir well; then add alternat ely milk and dry ingredients, which have been sifted together. Fold in square pan twenty-five to thirtyfive minutes in moderate oven, at 325 350 degrees F. This cake will keep indefinitely. JjUlJLP toHES 1 jjsiESj J ' “Feather Fluff” takes lots of good wind (from your own lungs, I mean). The children can sit around a table and form sides. A little fluffy feather (don’t pull it out of the old rooster’s tail!) is placed in the middle. Each side tries hard to blow the feather into the other’s camp and to keep it out of their own. This results in much funny puffing and blowing. Feathers, Figs and Fun. After your feather game you’ll be quite .hungry. Wouldn’t it be a treat if mother could have a steamed fig pudding made like this? % cup shortening 1 cup sugar 1 egg 1 cup sweet milk 2 cups self-rising flour 1% cups chopped figs. Cream shortening; add sugar slowly and beaten eggs; add milk; mix well; add flour. A half teaspoonful of va nilla is next and then the fruit. Pour into greased mold and steam for two hours. Serve with foamy sauce. WANTED—Women, Girls and Young Men. Easy to learn. We pay while you learn. Apply at once at C. & M. Hosiery Mill, Oxford, N. C.
