Of the American Revolution, spon soring agency. Chosen by members of the senior ciasses, with faculty approval, were Sanne Daii Jones at J. F. Webb High; Elizabeth Iris Farabow at South Granviile High; and Susan Kirk Fortune of John Nichols High. Parents of the winners, who are to receive recognition at the annual commencement program of their schools in the spring, are Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Jones Jr. of Ox ford and Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Fara bow of Rt. 2. Oxford. Miss For tune has been a student at the Oxford Orphanage since 1980 and Mrs. L. A. Ligon is her sponsor. At a meeting of the DAR Chapter Oct. 16, each was a guest and re ceived a Good Citizenship pin from Mrs. W. G. Woltz, regent. They are to compete at the district level where the winner will receive a $100 savings bond. The district win ners will go to national competi tion for a larger prize. Each of the girls is 17. Sanne is considering Meredith College and Wake Forest University. Candystripers and is also a sewing enthusiast. Betsy Para bow's principal con cerns are piano, art, sewing, travel ing and working with children. Dur ing August, she served as a Coun selor at Hanover County Methodist Elementary Camp, near Richmond. She also participates in sports, plays basketball, softball and rides horseback. She is editor of Viking Ventures, publication of her school, is a memher of Beta Club, Future Homemakers and Health Careers. She is presently planning to major in child psychology at the Univer sity of North Carolina. Susan Fortune is described as "an excellent student and an ac tive and enthusiastic participant in the various class and extra-curri cular activities" of her school. She has served as class secretary, is now chief cheerleader, a member of the yearbook staff, literary club treas urer and also vice president of this club. She is secretary of the math club, an FFA Club member for four years, is president of the Na tional Honor Society and partici pates in public speaking activities. She has been a student council of ficer for three years and is chief commencement marshal. She is also a member of the Fine Art Club and in her sophomore year, was winner of the World Peace Key in the organization's speaking pro gram. She was recently crowned Football Sweetheart. She Qtfongly desires to continue her education at UNC-G. She is described as "conscientious in the fulfillment of her duties at both school and church." Webb Future Homemakers to rise early in order to attend the District TV Rally at Hillside High in Durham on October 12. Several girls from Webb par ticipated in the program during the day. The thought for the day was given by Cindy Boyd and Robbie Watson. Brenda Slaughter served as a page and Wanda Dickerson, State Vice-Presidept, presided. The FHA delegates were wel comed by John Lucas, principal of Hiliside High; Lew Hannen, Super intendent of Durham County Schools; and James Gurner, Di ."..."-.-.4 . rector of Vocational Education, Durham County Schools. Dr. Donald Moore of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary was the main speaker. His theme was "Action Today." Special entertainment was pro vided by "The Lonely Drifters" combo from Raleigh.
