A., son of Mr. Able Cowan, came to his death in a very , sad and deplorable way day before yes terday. The lad, aged ; about b.'x years, was unwell, and his father adminisiered io,, i 6inall quantity of sjirits, and leaVirrfhe vessel containing the remain der in his room, left him alone for a short . time. When ho returned he found the "child in the act of swallowing more. Medical attendance was procured but in defiance of all remedies, he died in ten or twelve-hours. This is a sad affair and . we sympathize deeply with the brVaved father. LIBRARY ASSOCIATION. It is apparent to all that something is .needed to arrest vice and fix the minds of our citizens, of all ages, on that which is "better calculated to elevate and purify society, and establish a fellow feeling of charity and mutual regard between all classes of our people, one toward the oth er. - To this end, it hns been suggested that the institution of a Library Associa r "tion or reading room to Which the vonng " and old of our citizens may icpair to ' pass away their leisure hours or spare .time, would tend, in no small degree, to produce the object and elevate the stan dards our morality. This, we think, is . an elegant suggestion. Will our citizens act npoil it ? Will a sufficient number unite themselves together (o secure the success of an enterprise jso laudable , in its' inception and worthy of its ends? Theie are incalculable advan- tages and blessings to be derived from -it ' to our whole community. We hope to-;eee-it succeed.', AVill some one more able and better acquainted with the benefits to be. derived from such an as sociation give us more extended views on tliis important subject?
