The North Carolina Teachers
Assembly, meets in Asheville on
the 14th of this month. On that
day an excursion will be run over

The Salisbury Roller Mill Com
pany shut down Monday, the
6th, to put up a new; water tank
and new cloth on the reels, lit
will start again 'Thursday, the 9th.

Miss Delia Hall, of Cincinnati,
is visiting her sister, Mrs. J. IS.
McCubbins, Jr., on South Main
street. Miss" Hall stands at the
head of the profession as a trained
nurse. She is enrolled for service
under the Red Cross, and is ex
pecting orders to go to Cuba j at
any time.
Mr. W. D. Blalock, who has
been traveling for the Standard
Oil Company for some time, has
accepted a position as machinist
at the Southern shops at Spencer.
He. went to. work to-day. Ho will
for the present, we understand,
locate in the city. The Sun; is
glad to welcome Mr. Blalock j to
Salisbury.

x Mrs. Ida M. Beard, of Winston,
sister-in-law of Mr. W. R.
Meroney, is in the city selliDg a
history of her life, ertitled "My
Own Life; or A Deserted Wife,"
written by herself. The story I is
gotten up. in book form, paper
bound and contains 203 pages. ! It
is printed in clear bold type and
is a neat little book. The book,
while we have not read it, appears
to be well written. Mrs. Beard
is selling the book to procure
money to raise her children. She
says she sold quite a number ! in
Winston and Greensboro and had
already' sold a few here this morn
ing. She offers the book for ! 50
cents. Mrsl Beard is writing one
or more other book. She is work
ing in a worthy cause and we hope
she may meet with succes here.i
