THE SUN EIGHTEEN
MONTHS OLD.
The Sun with vesteni;iv was
, i
eighteen months old. Whatever
. 'i
it has been the Salisbury people
have made it. Whatever it is to
t j "
be remains with them. On March
1st, 1897, it was launched out as b
public journal seeking patronage
from the city and county. It was
favor from the people. It grew,
slowly but gradually.
Its editors were greatly cneourj
aged and did all they could to give
the people a good paper. That
their services were appreciated is
attested by its growth and by its
kind reception by the people. Its
columns reach a large number of
homes in the town and county
Its daily circulation is double that
any other daily paper ever pub
lished here.. j
It furnished its patrons with the
very latest from the seat of war
during the past three or four
months. This was done at consider
able expense to the proprietors, but
the outlay was made willingly and
gladly. The pleasure at being able
. f
to give the people the much sought
news was a sufficient compensation
for the amount expended. j
The Sun hopes it has been, at
least to some extent, useiul as a
paper.
If it has not been the cause was
not a iacK 01 zeai anu an earnest
purpose on the part of its proprie-
tors. This they have endeavored
to show. Their desire has been to
give the people a paper worthy of
thfl town.
It has espoused every
cause looking t6 the betterment of
i
Salisbury; it has advocated ever'
new enterprise mentioned for the
town; it has suggested new indus-
tries, and, at the risk of being
tiresome, it has clung tenaciously
to the questions of securing elcc-
