Res. Salisbury. The Old State Looking TJp. , : llalelgh Post. The Old North State is slowly but surely improving. We have stated that our farmers this year raised more cotton than ever be fore; and in addition the largest food crops have been gathered; our manufacturers have all worked up to their full capacity, many cotton mills specially working night, as well as day forces. La bor generally has been employed at living rates at least. This con dition of the industrial forces is well refllected in the improved condition of the banks of the State. According to the statement-tnis week issued by the State Treasury Department, the loans and dis counts by our State, private and savings banks amount to $7,000, 000 in round figures. The capital of these banks with which these loans are made, including surplus funds, undivided profits and de posits of all sorts, amounts to something over $10,000,000, which shows the conservative, yet gener ally useful management of these institutions. This statement does not include, we believe, the Na tional banks. As we say, everything now in dicates a healthy condition of the Old State, and the prospects of ad vancement along all lines are most gratifiying. Let us all take cour se, and WORK. All of us may not, certainly will not get rich the next year, but we can, by honest energy and constant, intelligent application, secure at least a com fortable living, for ourselves and families. ' Her Hint. He kissed her on the finger tips, . She blushed a rosy red; . . "That's not where Hobson puts his lips," ' , She innocently said. ' But you can guess the rest, f Alfred Warren, Esq., of Hunt ing Creek, Wilkes county, died Tuesday at 2:30 p. m., and his son, Jphn P. Warren died at 4 p. m., an hour and a half later;. . 'Squire Warren was a prominent man in his community and served his county as commissioner for a num ber of years. How to Look Good. Good looks are really more than skin deep, depending entirely on a healthycondition of all the vital organs. If the liver is inactive you have a bilious look; ,if your stomach is disordered you have a dyspeptic look; if your kidneys are affected you have a pinched look. Secure good health and you will surely have good looks. 4 'Electric Bitters" is a Alterative and Tonic.
