Parties coming up on the Yad kin this morning brought the news that thfl necrro who attempted to assault the 12-year-old girl at Al bemarle Thursday, had been cap tured. The large searching party kept close after the negro and finally captured him in Anson county, 18 miles from Norwood yesterday evening. He was brought back to Albe marle last night, the crowd passx insr through Norwood about 2 o'clock and arriving at Albemarle at 6 this morning when the prison er was placed in jail. It seems that the crowd which captured the negro did not try to lynch him, but it is thought there may be a lynching bee to-night. The Concord Standard gives the f ollowing particulars of the nogro's attempt to assault or murder: About 2 o'clock Thursday after noon when little Mary Saunders, the 10-year-old daughter of Mr. William Saunders, of Albemarle, went from her home to the rail road trestle near the public road, to change the cow from its place of grazing a burly and vicious negro, Henry Hyatt by name, ap proached her and drew from his pocket a pistol, and after making his wishes known, brutishly at tempted to criminally assault her, at the same time threatening to kill her if she gave an alarm. Mary's little .brother had accom-. panied her, how ever, and when he learned of the negro's purposes. he began to scream. The agonizing cries of the two children attracted the attention of Mr. Lowder, who was passing, and as be came in view of the scene, the brute let go his hold upon the little girl and fled., The negro was foiled in his hell ish intent, and succeeded in eluding the range of .bullets from Mr. Lowder's pistol. The alarms-was spread over the town and community -in a very little while, and within a short time quite a posse of men ' were in pursuit of the negro. . From a party direct from that community the Standard learns that the people are indignant and that if the negro is captured sum mary punishment will be his lot. - The child was uninjured except being rendered prostrate from flight. She is of a highly respected family. The negro is a son of Henry Hyatt," a one armed negro who lives at Cottonville. From the Narrows. A. Madole, assistant engineer of the work at the Narrows, was here this morning going to Spartan burg, S. C.
