The water commission met last night to transact the business left over at the first meeting this week. - The business of chief importance was the election of a superintend ertt. Mr. J. Will Neave, the present efficient superintendent, was elected at a salary of 900 per year. He is required to give 'his undivided time and attention to the .dujties devolving upon the s u perji n t elulen t. Rules and regulations for the government of" the commission were adopted. They will be printed later on and distributed among the patrons of the water works. , The board has not yet been able to ascertain accurately what will bo the income and expenses snd have, in consequence, not estab lihcd a settled rate. They have allowed a reducticm of 10 per cent, for cash payments and there will be saved to the city on rental $3,500 per year. SHIPS TO UNION MINE. The Rowan Mine will Begin Shipping ore Monday. The Rowan Copper Mine, best known as the Oddie Copper Mine, will begin shipping ore onMotday to the Union mine, where it will be concentrated and smelted. Clanton, of the Uni ted States mint at Charlotte, was in Salisbury last night returning from Gold Hill to Charlotte. Mrs. Harley made a very satisfactory report from Brevard, hopeful indeed. Mr. England made a report from Canton, which was good news of the little beginning toward a bet ter day for the comfort of the parsonage. Mrs. Brannor spoke in this connection of the heroic work of the few women on this charge.
