The Helpfilness of the Bible Services Representative Kluttz has intro duced the following bill in Cong ress which will be of exceeding interest to our people: A BILL hor tho construction of a drive way and approaches to the nation al cemetery at Salisbury, North Carolina. Whereas, the national cemetery at Salisbury, North Carolina, in which the remains of twelve thous and Federal dead are interred, is almoet inaccessible to visitors and comrades for want of proper driveway and approaches: Bo it enacted by the Senate and house of Representatives of the United States of America in Con ress assembled, That the sum of fifteen thousand dollars is hereby appropriated, out of any moneys in the Treasury not otherwise ap propriated, for the purpose of constructing proper driveways and approaches, of macadam or other suitable material, from the city of Salisbury to said national ceme tery, the beginning, direction, and terminus of said driveway and approaches to be determined by the Secretary of War; said sum of money, or so much thereof as may be necessary, to be expended un der the direction of said Secretary. Lett, a flagman whose run was from Spencer to Ashe- ville and who is well known here, was killed yesterday. The States ville correspondent of the Char lotte Observer gives the following account of the accident: This afternoon a freight train ran over and instantly killed Mr. A. W. Lett, a flagman of the train crew. The accident occurred im mediately in front of the station. Mr. Lett was on top of a car while the. train was doing some shifting, and it is not positively known whether he stepped off the car or whether a sudden-pr caused him to fall. His body was severed and horribly mangled. Mr. Lett's home was in Abbeville, where the remains will be taken. Mrs. C, B.' Carted left this morning for Fernandina, Fia., to join Mr. Carter, who has been working there Mr. Earnhardt Will B- cover. ; Mr. Lawfon Earnhardt, who wa hit by t derrick at the Phillips granite quarry yesterday and was thought be to fatally Irjuted, is better today. This lodge, although it was not organized until last May, is in a thriving condition with 23 .mem bers in good standing. They have fitted up a nice Pythian hall with up-to date furniture and have a complete and attractive lot 01 paraphernalia. They have had work in some degree nearly every meeting night during the whole fall and the lodge is composed of the best people of the town. The Endowment Rank of the lodge is in a thriving condition with 13 members and a, totsl in surance of $ 18,000. The meetings every Thursday evening are well attended. Mr. W. G Newman came down from New York this morning and left on the Yadkin train for Gold - Hill, whero he will look over the Union and Gold Hill mines today. Bnt a few A Promiring Young Man of Salisbury Dies of Appendicitis. Mr. Benjamin Gales, a promis ing young man of this city, died Thursday night after undergoing an operation for appendicitis. Mr. Gales was 21 years old and was very popular with all who knew him. The funeral services were con ducted from the residence in the New York, Dec. 14.
