that application was made to the

A PLEASANT SESSION -THIS
YEAR. '.
35,000 Cosaanlcant Uenbers of the
Presbyterian Charci In Nortt Carolina,
375 Marches, and 157 Ministers.
At 12 :80 o'clock Saturday the
Presbyterian Synod of North Car
olina adjourned, after,one of the
most successful sessions it has ever
held. The attendance was larger
than for a number of years past,
and the member were delighted
with their entertainment in the
capital city.
Yesterday resolutions were
adopted thanking the people 'of
the city, and especially the con
gregation of the Presbyterian
church,, for their open-hearted
hospitality j to Peace Institute and
the State Institution for the Blind
for entertainments tendered ; to
the press of the city for their court
esies, and to the several railroads
for reduced rates.
The morning session ,was dcvot-H
ed to the completion of considera
ble routine work that more impor
tant matters had crowded out. A
good many matters of minor im
portance were disposed of.
The records of the Synod show
that there -are 375 Presbyterian
churches in the State, with 157
ministers actively at work, and
nearly 85,000 communicants. The
church is in a healthy and grow
ing condition.
Its record in contributions prob
ably exceeds that of any other de-
xxpt4ori - ir ilig. Wil"
only 85, 000 members, it contribut
ed to foreign missions $21,000, and
to borne missions in various de
partments $31, 000.'
The success of the meeting this
week is due largely to the efforts
of Dr. Eugene Daniel, the pastor
of the Raleigh church, and his
congregation.
The delegates, except the minis
ters who are to fill local pulpits to
day, returned to their homes yes
terday. STIEFF COMPANY'S GENEROSITY-
