I. Alleged CerUln Car far tht Bit of a Had Do;. The editor of tbo Kent Newf, nb Hhc. at CbtrlcKtovD, M1. in giving publicity to tbe following article, tTf It may be proper to tttte for the information of ncraoni who are not ac quainted with Mr. Djrer, tbat be i a lili:UII IUIllllAM'l ...... - - - . . ft r i, V .1 ' larmcr, rceiuing ucar ynvin, m cour.tj - - - Elecampaine is a plant well-known tomcat pcrecot, and is to be found-in man j cf our gardens. Iramediatelj after being bitten, take a half cunce of the plant the green root ii per baps preferable, bat tbe dried will an wer and maj be found In oar drug i tores, and was used by mo slice or bruise, put into a pint of freh milk, boil down to a half pint, strain, and when cold, drink, fasting for at leat six bonrs aflerwardi. The next morn ing, failing, repeat the dose, usinj: 2 ounces of the root. On the third morning take another dose, prepared as the last, and this will le sufficient. It is recommended that after each done nothing be eaten for eix hours. I hare a son who was bitten by a mad dog 18 years ago, and f.mr other children in the neighborhood were al so bitten ; they took the above dose, and are alive and well at tLis day. Anci. I have known a number of oth ers who were bitten that applied the sane remedy. It is supposed that the root con tains tho same principle which, being taken up by the blood in its ciicula tion, counteracts or neutralizes the deadly effects of the virus of bjdro phobia. I feel so much confidence in this simple remedy that I am willing you should give my name in connection with this statement. F. Dvek. Woman's Part in the World. It is tho keeping alive for men cer tain ideas, and ideal?, too, which would Boon pass out of the world in the push and hurry of material existcne, if they were not fed and replenished by those who are able to stand aloof from tho worry and vexations of active life. When society ceases to have the means of creating its own ideas, it must de cay. Civilization is nourished by im aginative wealth that the world pos sesses and renews for itself -from time to time; and those treasures of ima gination which we call ideas are main ly dependent on the social position occupied by women. Ideas of purity, unselfishness and devotion, in the words of the poet, are the hinge3 of the gato of life; and, if women were to become as men, the sacred fire would soon become extinct. The heathens of old fitly expressed this truth by the image of the eternal flame of Vesta, which it was tho duty of her priest esses to maintain unimpaired, and on the preservation of which the welfare of Itomo depended. Home Journal. "Educating the Public Mind." The radical pres3 has talked a great deal, both publicly and through pri vate circulars, about the necessity of edncattng the public mind up to a stan dard that would enable them to carrv out their fanatical doctrines. We have just wiinesscd tlrreo specimens of the instruments through which the public mind is thus educated. One a few days ago committed suicide in Georgia after attempting to murder his colored . mistress in a drunken fit ; another, a colored assessor, publishes a card ac knowledging that he was misinformed in regard to certain tragedies allpgcd to have been committed by the whites upon the blacks and to which be gave publicity ; and another has been dis missed from employment on account of a serious lapse involving his charac ter for integrity. With preceptors like these is it any wonder that the public mind should be educated up to a very pernicious standard of morality ? New York Herald. Sad Suicide. Mrs. Brown, the wife of Mr. Allen Brown of this county, hung herself to a loom, on Thursday last. She was a most, amiable woman, and some fifty live years of age. Her mind had been put of its right channel for a short while -and once before she was pre vented by her family from taking her life with a knife. On Thursday morn ing she got up soon, ground the coffee and called the family to breakfast. Soon afterward, she committed the rash act. Her worthy and afSiced husband as well as the faioilv, have the sympathy of all in this county. JliUsboro liccoraer. "' The Hillsboro Recorder says that a man by the name of Crabtree, living down in the neighborhood of Captain Lyons, has: recently made two at tempts to take his life. One time, he was lectured on the impropriety of 'the deed, by an old negro man, and he desisted in tho attempt. But the next morning, his wife was just in time to save him from hanging in the barn. AcquittaL ' A Forsythe Court, last week, Col. AVm. F. Henderson, indicted in con nection rith his brother, David Hen derson, on the charge of stealing a mule from Henry Da rr of Davidson rounty, was put upon his trial and, af ter a Tery vigorous prosecution and a hle defense, acquitted. The jury, we learn deliberated but fire and a half minutes in making up their verdict. "Salisbury Old Ko. th State.
