When we buy at 25 cents a pound a strip of bacon or a ham that we might raise at home for 10 cents a pound, what jroes with the 15 cents a pound difference? ihe man who grew meat and the middle man get it,' you say. The European war is now being financed on what may well be called a colossal scale. The Phila delphia Public. Ledger refers to Great Britain's new loan of $5,000,000,000 as "the greatest in all history for any purpose. " The magnitude of this loan is considered a reminder to all belligerents, and especially to the foe, that England "is prepar ed to wage this conflict to a defin ite conclusion, no matter what the time and no matter what the' cost " The Public Ledger also refers to the financing by France in a way by which that i country may keep its gold and yet pro vide all the cash needed for the purchase of war munition. The French plan has been mentioned in this paper. The-French bank ers are purchasing millions of American securities which are owned by the French people, and these securities will be sent to the United . States where they will be csed as collateral for bor rowing money that will go back to Paris. By this plan the foreign market will be maintained on a steady basis. The Public Ledger sees in this French transaction the rr'.csr of a large amount of idle funds and the starting of still more American wheels, with the consequent filling of tzy rv,i. -3 f rthc"'"-3cf A; will be given Absolutely Free to the young lady in Alexander County securing the greatest number of votes in our Voting: Contest which began on Monday, June 14th, 1915 ; QUANTITY Here are the terms and conditions which make it possible for some young lady to secure this valuable prize: Each yearly subscription counts 100 votes.
