The board lof aldermen held its regular monthly meeting last night with His Honor, H. P. Grier, mayor, in the chair. The city clerk, Mr. Eugene Mor rison, was absent and Alderman V. L. Gilbert officiated as clerk pro tem. The only matter of much im portance to be transacted, waS the election of a tax collector and su perintendent of water works. As was anticipated, Mr. J. E. Boyd tendered his resignation to take effect Dec. 1. This was made necessary as that gentleman has just been elected register tof deeds for Iredell county. The resig nation was accepted and the board at once went into the election of a successor to Mr. Boyd. A number of gentlemen had made an active canvass for the place and the life of the aldermen has not been an easy one for the past few weeks because of the efforts constantly made by some of these and their friends to se cure the support of the various members iof the board. The names of these gentlemen were ! read off and each member signified the one he desired to vote for. The result of the ballot showed that only tww on the list had been voted for. These were Mr. W. L. McNeeley, and E. N. Morrison and each received the same number of votes. There being a tie it became the duty of the mayor to cast the de ciding vote and he did this by cast ing it for Mr.McNeeley. Mr. McNeeley, Loyd McNeeley resident of this city. He is super intendent and managor of the Cling Fast Co. The board then ordered all the regular monthly bills paid. The question of purchasing ground adjoining the city building was discussed and a committee was appointed to invsstigate the matter. This committee is com posed of the following : Aldermen Clark and Henkel and the mayor. The members discussed, in an informal manner, the question of a general revision of or amend ment to the city charter. A com mittee composed ol Mayor Grier, City Attorney Dorman Thompson, and Alderman Ausley, chairman of the finance committee, will in vestigate the matter and will , probably rePort at a later date.
