Nugget of 1 he Lwiiariie river section of Montgomery county is fast coming to the front as a gold-producer. In a strip of country extending not mo-e than ten miles in-: length and two miles in width, .with the Uwhar rie iiver lunning through the cen tre, not less than $50,000 has. been taken out in the last fifteen months, by the natives, with only the cru dest kind of washing .chinery, such a'3-the hand rocker and pan. The latest and largest find was made bet week on the' Martha Hall place, on Bunnell Mountain being an 11 pound nugget, found by Mr. kelson Russell. A g'eat many nuggets have been found in creeks and hol'ows, but none fine the five proaching this, the next in weighing between four and pounds. We confidently expect in the near future, as soon as new and improv ed methods are introduced to see this section rated as the gold-producer of the United States.- Salis bury Herald. The word '.'gazette is from the name of an old Venetian coin, worth about one-half cent of our money. The name is applied to newspapers because it was the sum charged for reading the first written journals that made their appearance in 1550. After the paper was read it was landed back to the owner, who charged the next comer a gazette for taking a peep at it. The sun is tremendously large. It is equal to 1,300,000 globes the s; e ok our eanli, but owing to its lrck of density its weight equals that of only 332,000 such masses. There is; a curious grape-vine at Habersham Dark, Georgia. It grows from a large oak tree about five feet from the ground. The tree is perfectly sound, and no roots of the vine are discernible. A Wonder Worker.
