THIS LIST CONTAINS ALL NAMES OBTAINABLE AND ORDER
For the benefit of those who now
h-ve their numbers and know about
tliD order in which they are likely to
be called for examination under the
Selective Draft Law it may be stated
that the next official move to be made
according to the regulations, is:
The determination by the Governor
of the quotas to be called- and fur
nished by the several local boards.
Tn Warren County this number is
1S2.
Tins will determine how many men
from your district must go into thi:
service. The possibility of exemp
tions will necessitate the examination
of two or three times as many men
as are. needed.
The War Department's bulletin for
the information of registrants reads
in part :
As soon 'as quotas are assigned to
each State and each board, each board
will call vip m persons whose ?ards are
in its jurisdiction instructing them to
present themselves for examination.
This call will be posted at . the office
of the local board and the papers wi'.t
be requested to print it. A notice will
also be mailed to you, but the posting
of the list at the office of the hoard
will be deemed sufficient notice to
charge you with the duty of present
in yourself.
The law therefore makes it your
duty to inform yourself when you are
called. The mailing is for your con
venience, but if the letter never reach
es you, 3on cannot make that an ex
cuse. Watch the lists at the pffice of your
board and see when you are called for
examination.
You must report for physical exam
ination on the day named in your call.
(a) If you are found physically dis
qualified the board will give you a
certificate which will explain to you
what your further duties are,
(b) If you are found physically
qualified and file a claim for exemp
tion withm seven days after your call
you will bo given ten days after filing
your claim of exemption to file proof
in support of your claim of exemption.
(c) If you are found physically
qualified and file no claim for exemp
tion, or if you do not appear for phy
sical examination, your name will be
posted to the district board as one who
was called for military service and
was not exemptied or discharged.
On the eighth day after call, or with
in two days thereafter, copies of the
list of persons so posted to the dis
trict boards will be given to the press
with a request for publication, will be
posted in a place at the office of the
local board accessible to the public
view, and notice will be mailed to ycu
at the address on your registration
card.
Therefore watch the notices posted
in the office of the board about ten
days after the day you were called
and make arrangements for the
prompt receipt of mail.
The above instruction from the War
Department therefore PUT IT UP TO
YOU.

The rains around here have been
frequent and the mud has appeared
as if it was February again. Crops
are getting on a heavy coat of weed
but look well and promise a fair har
vest. Big meeting starts at Shady Grove
church near here, we are informed,
the 2nd Sunday in August.
Mr. R. E. Williams has a fine field
of corn planted after clover. Ed is
a good farmer as well as Ginner.
Mr. D. C. Alston continues to keep
under a cloud," and we think he
must have met with his "Waterloo of
Defeat" upon his last visit to Franklin
county, and even now he seems to
hear the beating of the waves upon
the lonely shores of "St. Helena."
The lovely Miss Estelle Williams is
visiting in Petersburg this week.
Messrs. R. W. Alston and your cor
respondent -were invited to a house
party near Oxford this week and re
gret we could not attend as we both
love to "Tote Calico" in tripping the
"light fantastic."
More food stuffs have been planted
in this vicinity than usual, and "hog
and hominy" seems to be the slogan.
Mr. Lee Williams has "laid by" his
"crap" and your correspondent saw a "
square on his cotton this a. m.
Mr. L. F. Thompson, of Inez, was in
town today and looks fat, prosperous
and happy.
More anon.

highly our water system, stating that
it was one of the best small-town sys

aside from the pipey taste in the
water that would be prominent on
the dead-ends in hot weather, that he
thought the system was excellent.
