A FLAG POLE Old Glory, patriotically donated last spring by one of Warren's daughters, has become tattered and torn nil be cause it has been impossible to raise and lower it from the Court House Flag pole unless a ladder was procur red; and it thus has been left out in the weather night and day. The flag donated would have lasted for years with proper care, but with conditions as they are every flag plac ed on the Court House will go o pieces in a short while. It seams to us that a flag pole could be very approprately erected on the riht of the Court Square. This would permit the raising of the flag each morning and its lowering each afternoon; it would also be mor'j easily seen from all sections of thi town. This flag pole mounted in a cement base, would cost little, and it3 value at this time cannot be measured in terms of cost of erection. TRY YOUR HAND Mr. J. B. Ivey, of Charlotte, Mer chant Representative of U. S. Food Administration, is offering a Fifty dollar Liberty Bond prize for the best article on Food Conservation. We urge that Warren boys and girls enter this contest. The question of Conservation will be ever-present until years after the end of the war, and it is hoped that it is one of the lessons America will learn for all time. One new idea may come from yoa, another from another source and a3 their wisdom is seen will be adopted into a great organization. We urge that school teachers let Conservation be the subject for com position work; and to also urge that their pupils compete for this prize. Certain it is that nothing is of more value in composition work than con tinued writing. Thi3 question is of live interest and the Liberty Bond is on incentive to a greater effort. WAR Y. M. C. A. We re;oice that Warren people gave as they did in the War Y. M. C. A. campaign fund of last week. It is source of pleasure and of common re joicing whenever a desired result, em bodying such a philanthropic purpose, is accomplished. The fund was overscribd by over two hundred dollars; and its oversub scription reflects credit upon Warren. The work is of utmost moment, and every donor of time and money can net help but feel pleasure by having a hand, an interest, some stock, in the War Y. M. C. A. CAPTAIN SMITH OF NORLINA CUT BY NEGRO IN AFFRAY. Captain Smith, of Norlina, conduc tor for the Seaboard, was slightly cut by a negro at Norlina Monday. Both were tried in the Recorder's Court here yesterday. Capt. Smith was fined $5.00 and the negro $10.00 and cost.
