J C. Blalock of Warrenton and W. T.: Carter of Vaughan, succeeding ! Jesse Gardner and Miss Amma D. Graham. The new board appointed school committees for the county. In the majority of cases the same committeemen were re-appointed. However there were two changes. J. P. T. Harris was appointed to take the place of Y. H. Bobbitt of Vaughan who has removed from I the school district. George Bender succeeds Phillip Holtzman, who recently died, as school committeeman at Manson. The names of j Warren school committeemen are j carried in a table in another, column. Under the new school law county superintendents are required to attend a five-day meeting at Raleigh the latter part of April to study the new school law. Stock Market Cause Increased Revenue WASHINGTON, April 1.?Activity in the stock markets through 1928 was said by Treasury Department officials today to account for an $80,000,000 increase in the March income tax returns over that received for the same period a year ago, the total this year having reached $595,000,000. Such an increase was unexpected. Present indications were said to point to income taxes for the present fiscal year, ending next June 30, being the largest since 1921. It was said further that a treasury surplus of around $100,000,000 was indicated. The last estimate placed the probable surplus at $26,000,000. Treasury officials said the increase in income tax payments amazed them and was due chiefly to the fact that on the rising stock market there were few deductions for losses and much profit-making because of the low surtax on incomes. The revenue law of 1926, it was explained, reduced the surtax payments from a maximum of 40 per cent to a maximum of 20 per cent. This reduction, it was said, cajised many persons to take a profit whereas if the high surtax had been in effect they would not have sold the stock. Over one million citizens of North Carolina were reached in various meetings and extension schools held by workers of the agricultural extension service of State college in 1928. Farmers of piedmont North Carolina are buying their seed irish potatoes from growers in the mountains of Ashe and Avery counties. Cooper, Warrenton. Drewry, II. er. Vaughan, Improper Feeding Chickens Costly RALEIGH, April 2?Improper feeding is the greatest cause of poultry mortality among the farm flocks of North Carolina. "Out of 1,800 sick and dead birds sent to the State College poultry disease laboratory for study, overj 22 per cent die from diseases of the digestive tract," says R. S. Dear-j styne, research poultryman. "Nearly 16 per cent died of diseases of the gland organs; a little over nine per cent died of nervous trouble and about 9 per cent of respiratory diseases. The percentages dying from other troubles were successively smaller. It is apparent, however, that disorders of the digestive I ^ I Wen Ni I Givi |M. ??& ...... t ii. Warren ton, Nod J. At least 48.1 per cent might be attributed to this cause." In his studies, Prof. Dearstyne found a seasonal tendency for the occurrence of respiratory and septicemic diseases. He also found that mortality from nutritional diseases had a seasonal occurrence which fact may be traced to a lack of green feed supplements during the time of the year when actual green feed is not available. The studies made by Prof. Dear styne will represent general conditions and not isolated cases for it is rarely that a poultryman sends : in specimens to the laboratory un-t: less the condition becomes epedimlc.1 The occasional loss of a bird is not ( viewed with any alarm and some- 1 w Tire New ow equip all i at $150 or zw Tires Bati ng every customer an u Ask about our use See us for used tires otor S * FRIDAY, APRIL 5, \==========X7:Z=Z=^^to] fine itself to any"fcu,^^B ittO* this attitude num. though probably carele^J | juch an extremrB? ^ the Wbation may be a fa*, H ,er of preventable ^ ath death of young ckcfc S y^ co^adult birds laler 1 Bank of Warren I | At Warrenton, North Carolina to The Corporation (w| sion?At the close of business on the 27th day ot Mar<:h, t RESOURCES Loans and Discounts $154 Overdrafts United States Bonds All other Stocks and Bonds 22.or^^H Banking House 25,^1 Furniture and Fixtures Cash in Vault and Amounts Due from Approved Depository Banks | Checks for Cleaning and Transit Items o: J Cash Items (Items Held Over 24 Hours) sr.^H I Other Real Estate Total 5501,32)^^0 LIABILITIES M [I Capital Stock Paid In - ^ 50,ooi)|H Surplus Fund 25,QQ|J Undivided Profits (Net Amount) ?
