Alston (Nutbush township), valued at $1400, be reduced to $25.00 per acre on account tf destruction of building. Motion by Commissioner Newell, seconded by Commissioner Wall, and ordered with no opposing vote that the county of Warren lean from its joking Fund to the Warrenton Grocery Company, of Warrenton. the sum of $10,000.00, said loan to m secured by a first deed of trust I on the real estate and buildings I located thereon in which said com Pany is now doing business, situat & on Main street in the said town ^ Warrenton. I w j 0{ the Masonic Lodge re-1 B tte4 yesterday. 1 _ 3 Funeral Services For Wilbert Overby Held On Monday Funeral services for Wilbert Henry Overby, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Overby of near Macon, were held at Warren Plains Baptist church by the Rev. R. E. Brickhouse on Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Mr. Overby ended his own life at the home of his father on Sunday afternoon by swallowing carbollic acid. No cause was attributed for the act other than extreme nervousness. Friends observed that he was very unsteady at the Sanitary barber shop where he worked on Saturday night and dropped his razor several times, but hoped that it was only temporary. He was sitting with his father's family on Sunday afternoon when he walked to an adjoining room and obtained the fatal drink that ended his life. Part of the medicine had been used several months previously by his father in treating a sore hand and only a few ounces remained in the bottle. Mr. Overby is survived by his widow, by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Overby, one brother, Curtis A. Overby, and two sisters, Selma Overby, and Mrs. W. L. Wood, of Gastonia. Active pallbearers were Lowerance Overby, Benton Loyd, William B. . Overby, Lloyd Daniel, Hubert Overby and Wilton Loyd. Honorary pallbearers were Whitney Overby, W. W. Kidd, Wilton Strickland, James Coker, Gray Overby, Cary Wilson, Buck Cox, Mr. Knight and Mr. Smart. Daniel, all of Henderson, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Powell of Monroe. Board Hears Report From County Nurse Traveling 457 miles, Mrs. J. S. Jones, county health nurse, examined 457 school children during the j month of February, according to report made to the board of county commissioners in session at Warren ton on Monday. The nurse also visited three tu- 1 bcrculosis homes where instruction ' and aid was given, gave 142 small- 1 pox vaccinations and registered 11 ? prenatal cases. Twenty-eight ^ babies were registered by the nurse, who held 49 home conferences withmothers and excluded five children from school on account of scabies. Stallings was ap- [ pointed supervisor of tax collectors by the board of commissioners in session at Warrenton on Monday and the following list takers were lamed for the various townships for the year 1930: Smith Creek, Mrs. Alex Baxter; Hawtree, Russell Ellis; Nutbush, Percy Paschall; Sandy Creek, Sam: Mien; Sixpound, Jasper W. Board of Education Sells Oakville School The Oakville school was .sold to iV. P. Rodwell of that community ay the Board of Education in regilar monthly session at Warrenton >n Monday. The purchase price jvas $275 and is subject to the approval of the Oakville school comnittee. The board rejected bids on the 3rove Hill and Eribro school on iccount of the low bids. Matters pccupying the attention of the poard were of a routine nature and vere disposed of early in the afterloon and the meeting adjourned. Exercises will begin at 10 o'clock n the morning when two programs vill be held simultaneous. One of ;hese will be held at the Warrenton ichool auditorium and will take the ;'orm of stunts put on by the 13 vhite schools of the county, each ichool being allotted 8 minutes to ise according to their own judgnent as to the best form of en;ertainment. The other program vill be held at the court house and vill be in the form of a debate on ;he Chain Store System. At the lame time there will be an exhibit >f live-at-home posters and other naterials in the cafeteria room of he school and prizes in accordance vith the State program will be iwarded. It is expected that Parent-Teachir associations from several of the ichools will operate booths at noon vhere those who do not care to be >othered with bringing lunch from lome may obtain dinner. The afternoon will be devoted to ield day exercises which will begin it the ball park at 1:30 o'clock. N. J. Wiggins Dies At Weldon WELDON, March 4.?Walter W. iViggins, mayor of Weldon, died late Saturday afternoon following an llness of eleven weeks. For the past ;en years his health had been fating, but he was cheerful and atten,ive to his business. He would have >een seventy-one years old had he ived until July. Mr. Wiggins was manager for the >ld Roanoke Navigation and Water 5ower Company at Weldon for 'ears. He was a member of the toard of town commissioners for a lumber of years, mayor for more han twenty years, and a member if the board of trustees of the Wellon graded school since it was first bartered. He was a member of the 'resbyterian church and one of Veldon's best known citizens. The funeral services were held rom the residence Sunday afterloon at 4:30 o'clock conducted by he pastors of the other churches of he town. Surviving him are his widow, ormerly Miss Carrie Brown, of Vlabama; one dauhter, Miss Katine Wiggins; two sisters, Mrs. Bela Vortham of Henderson, and Mrs. P. W. Rose, Savanah, Ga., and two irothers, Messrs. Fred and Robert Wiggins of Norlina. Frederick Rutledge, owner of the japer, sent it to the mayor with his :ompliments but, nevertheless, it vas an outstanding obligation.
