Tells How 1937 Soil Payments Are Shared Soil-conservation payments for i937 will be divided between North j Carolina landlords and tenants ac- I cording to the following rules, said J. P. Crisweil, of State College. Cotton and peanut diversion payments: 371-2 per cent to the producer who furnishes the land, 12 1-2 per cent to tne producer who furnlses works tock and equipment; the other 50 per cent to be shared in ore same proportion that the crop is divided. Diversion payments for tobacco and general soil-depleting crjps: 15 per cent to the producer furnishing me land, 15 per cent to the producer iurnishing v/orkstock and equipment; the remaining 70 per cent to oe divided as the crop is divided. Payments for soil building practices will be divided among the pro uucers according to me amount ui vvork and expense incurred by each ai carrying out these practices. Tlie soil-building payments will be divided on the same basis used last year, Criswell stated, but a change nas been made in the method of dividing the diversion payments. Last year diversion payments were divided thus: 16 2-3 per cent to the producer furnishing the land, 16 2-3 per cent to the producer furnisliing , A'orkstock and equipment, ana 06 2-3 per cent to be divided in the proportion that the producers shared in the soil-depleting crops. It is believed that the method of dividing the payments this year will be more equitable and less complicated to work out, said Criswell. Drewry Items ?] Mrs. J. C. Watkins and son, John C.
