CHMN WATER '
COMMITTEE (
Commissioner H. W. Holt '
has been elevated to the position
of chairman of the Water
Committee of the Town of 1
Warrenton and Commissioner
A. C. Fair has been added to
this committee. <
Mayor W. A. Miles, at the
regular meeting _of the board
Monday night, appointed Holt
as chairman of the Water Com-1 p
mittee to succeed former Commissioner
Beverly White who
resigned a few weeks ago in :
prote-t of the action ti the J
[board in a police shakcup. Holt :
was already a member of the '
board and A. C. Fair was added
to complete the committee
personnel.
No action was taken by the
board Monday night to fill
the vacancy caused by the resignation
of White.
Action in the recent police
shakeup which saw the emnlnvmonf

as police chief and the release
of Officer Claude Bottoms was
taken in an executive session
and for this reason it was not
stated in a newspaper account
that Bottoms was given severance
pay. Monday night the
commissioners asked that it be
stated that in releasing Officer
Bottoms he was given a full
months severance pay. .
The board meeting was a
relatively short affair, occupied J
mostly by routine matters.
During the meeting it was an- .
nounced that the town had re- |
ceived five new metal boxes
for the fire alarm and a brief
discussion followed about the
need for repairing the fire c
alarm system, and a report (
from the water committee that (
the sewer line being laid from

hospital on the KOdlna road i
to the town sewet Wmtar would i
be completed within a few
days. s
The commissioners also ap- ]
proved the expenditure of $250 !
for painting and repair of the (
town hall. (
Commissioner Walker Bur- <
well, a member of the Rural 1
Fire Department, told the com- 1
missioners of the need for a \
lot upon which the rural fire- ]
men may erect a building of
their own. He suggested that
possibly a lot back of and adjacent
to the town hall might '
be suitable for this purpose. J
He did' not pursue the sugges- '
tion after it was pointed out by ;
other commissioners that this
space would be needed by the i
town in the event it should be 1
necessary to expand the Warrenton
Fire Department in the 1
future. J
A suggestion was made
that perhaps another lot could
be found which might be pur- 1
chased for the firemen by the 1
county. While the commission- *
ers took no action on the lot. t
the commissioners said thai s
they wished it.known that they _
deeply appreciated the worth t
of the Warrenton Rural Fire r
Department to both town and (
county and would do all they t
could to help them In any way. t
