Circle Meets At Norvelle Home Circle No. 2 of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Norlina Methodist Church met at the home of Mrs. Harry Norvelle at Wise with Mrs. B. A. Thaxton and Mrs. R. M. White, Jr., as co-hostesses. An interesting program on "Looking Backward and Thinking Forward" was presented by Mrs. W. S. Hicks, Mrs. J. B. Lewis and Mrs. G. P. Grissom. Routine business was presided over by Mrs. Hicks. During the social hour, the hostesses served sandwiches, potato chips, pickles, fruit cake and coffee to the 12 in attendance. Recognition Day Held For Students Student Recognition Sunday was observed by the Jerusalem-Zion Methodist Charge. [ The Methodist Church observes this Sunday by allowing the young people of their church to conduct the ehtire morning worship service. Growth in character, statute in receiving responsibility and a closer unity with their Christian faith are three reasons the church sponsors Student Recognition Day, according to the Rev. John Andrews, pastor of the two churches. The Methodist Church does this in honor of the young men and women of their church who are attending colleges and universities. The church belives and encourages all people to continue their education after high school. The Methodist Youth Fellowship of each church presided. The speakers were: Jerusalem, Miss Jeanette Bolton of East Carolina College, Miss Faye Rose of Chowan College and Mr. Fred Hicks, senior at Nor Una High School; Miss Nancy White of Chowan College, Mr. Frank Mayfield and Mr. Alton Williams, seniors at Norlina High School. College students who are members of the Jerusalem Methodist Church are: Miss Jeanette Bolton of East Carolina College and Miss Fayo Rose of Chowan College. College students who are members of Zion Methodist Church are: Miss Nancy White and Mr. Gene Hatchell of Chowan College, and Mr. Steve Read of the University of North Carolina.
