News and Events of Interest To Norlina Readers UBS. IMOGENE ARNOLD, Editor Mrs. F. D. Draffin, Mrs. J. J. Clarke and Mrs. H. F. Kelly spent Wednesday In Raleigh. David Spain of Lynchburg is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ed Spain and Mr. and Mrs. John Richard Paschall. Mrs. John E. Bobbitt and Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Bobbitt and George visited relatives in Richmond last weekend. Mr. and Mrs. F. Douglas Draffin, Dee, Linda and Charles attended the christening of Mr. and Mrs. Draffin's grandson, Mark Louis Noneman, at White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. George Robin son spent the weekend in Ral eigh with Mr. and Mrs. George B. Robinson. They moved to their new home on Fairfax Hill in Raleigh on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Lamb and . children, Robert and Stephen, of Fresh Meadows, New York, are expected to ar rive Friday to spend the Christmas season with Mrs. Lamb's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Robinson. Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Schmick of Preston, Md., were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Hecht. The Schmicks were en route to Florida. While in the Hecht home they were visited by Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Han selman of Manson, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Seaman and Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hecht of Ridgeway. Recent visitors in the Joe I.. Cobb home were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Edwards of Durham, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Holtzman of Winston-Salem, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Cobb of Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. Joe B. Burton of Farmville, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Overby and Danny of Smithfield visit ed in the Overby and Arnold home last Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Fuller visited Mrs. Fuller's mother. Mrs. L. S. Infant Overby Funeral services were con ducted at the graveside in War ren Dale Cemetery in Norlina Saturday for Shearon Ann Overby, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Overby, by the Rev. Billy Fallaw of the Norlina Baptist Church, assist ed by the minister of the Nor lina Methodist Church. Surviv ing besides the parents are the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Bowers and the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Roy Overby of Nor lina. Receiving Treatment A1 Lynch and his four months-old brother, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Lynch, are re ceiving treatment at Duke Hos pital, Durham. Class Of 1953 Holds Reunion The 1953 class of the Nor lina High School held its first reunion on Friday evening, November 24, at the Norlina Club House where the Norlina Woman's Club served a delic ious supper of barbecued chicken with all the trimmings. Letters were read from John StSing and Miss Peggie Limer. The class history and com mencement exercises were also j read. Mrs. J. J. Clarke Is Bridge Hostess Mrs. John J. Clarke enter tained at two tables of bridge at her home last Tuesday night. Auxiliary Meets At Stallings Home The Junior Girl's Auxiliary met at the home of Mrs. T. W. Stallings on Tuesday afternoon after school with 11 present and Darline Davis presiding. Scripture was read by Cheryl Daniel, after which Jeanna Dean Bobbitt presented the program on "Miss Lottie Moon's Desk." Those taking! part were Mary Louise Stal lings, Rita Hobbs, Margaret Ay cock, Debbie Floyd, Harriet Perkinson, Glenda Hendrlck, Nancy Edmonds, Cheryl Daniel and Darline Davis. The hostess served the group i fudge cycles at the conclusion I of the meeting. Circle 2 Meets With Mrs. Grissom Society of Christian Service of j the Norlina Methodist Church I met at the home of Mrs. G. P.! Grissom with Mrs. J. L. Flem-| ing as joint hostess last Mon-j day evening. The Grissom1 home was beautifully decorat ed in keeping with the Christ mas season. Mrs. W. S. Hicks presented a Christmas program. Routine business was presided over by the circle leader, Mrs. Grissom. Gifts were exchanged among the members after which the hostess served refreshments, carrying out the traditional Christmas colors in punch, party cakes, cheese dainties and nuts to the 20 attending. Methodist YAF Holds Meeting The Young Adult Fellowship of the Norlina Methodist Church met Sunday night at the parsonage with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wooten. The meeting was called to order by1 the vice-president, Mrs. C. L. Hege, followed by the devo tional by Mrs. Leigh Traylor. After the business session, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Newman, program committee for the month, had planned group singing of Christmas carols. A trio, composed of Mrs. Hege, and Mr. and Mrs. Wooton, sang "Silent Night." Mrs. Wal ter Newman sang "O Holy Night." The fine program closed with Mrs. Clayton Tay lor and Mrs. Newman singing "Away In a Manger." During the social hour the 14 present were served fruit cake, cocoanut pie and coffee. Brother Dies Mrs. Irene Felts of Norlina was notified Tuesday morning of the sudden death of her brother, James T. Myrick. Mr. Myrick died of a heart attack ?t the Salisbury Veterans Hos pital.
