News and Events of Interest To Norlina Readers MRS. IMOGENE ARNOLD, Editor Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Moore were overnight guests of the ~H. E. Davis family in Raleigh on Monday. Mrs. T. \V.' Stallings, Linda Kay and W. M. Overby visited Mrs. N. D. Rose in Raleigh on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bobbitt of Richmond wore visitors in Norlina for several days last week. Mrs. B. C. Thompson is re ceiving treatment at Warren General Hospital. Mrs. John Deyton, Jr., and Jack of Portsmouth, Va? spent several days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brauer. Mrs. James Watkins, Jr, Joyce and David of Oxford were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clint Hege. Mrs. T. J. Jones and Mrs. T. W. C. in a canaiengnt ceremony ai the Norlina Baptist Church on Sunday, December 17, Miss Barbara Ann Adams became the bride of Mr. Leonard Hart well Keeton. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Adams of Norlina, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Edwin Keeton of Hen derson. The Rev. Billy K. Fallaw of ficiated. Music was presented by Mrs. H. H. Foster, organist, and Mrs. Billy K. Fallaw, vo calist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown Mrs. J. W. Arnold Entertains Class Mrs. J. W. Arnold' entertain ed members and guests of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class of the Norlina Baptist Church at her home at a Christmas party on Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The home was festive with traditional Christmas deco rations of red, green and white. Upon arrival, Mrs. R. H. Fuller, teacher of the class, and Mrs. J. F. Bobbitt, class president, presented each guest with a Christmas corsage. Two interesting readings per taining to Christmas were giv en by Mrs. Bobbitt and Mrs. H. H. Foster. Mrs. Bertha Perk inson presented gifts from the class to its teacher, Mrs. Fuller, and to Mrs. J. C. Pridgen, as sistant teacher. The guests were then invit ed into the dining room where ham biscuits, pickles, nuts, candies fruit cake and coffee were served by candlelight. Miss Linda Kay Stallings as sisted the hostess in .serving the 20 guests. Napkins usea for the occasion bore the words of the first verse of "Hark! the Herald Angels Sing," which the group sang upon returning to the living room. Mrs. Arnold presented each person present with a small gift upon leaving. designed by Maurer of chantil ly lace and tulle, with a sabrina neckline embroidered with sequins. The basque bodice featured lacy sleeves tapering to points over the hands, and bouffant skirt with lace appliques ended in a chapel train. Her fingertip veil I of imported illusion was attach- j ed to a crown of sequins, and she carried a prayerbook topp ed with an orchid. Miss Faye Adams, sister of the bride, attended as maid of j honor. She wore a ballerina j gown of flame red velveteen, and carried a bouquet of pom I poms mixed with holly. The bridegroom had his! brother, Gene Keeton of Hen-| derson for best man. John Hope, Gene Peoples, Donald Snow, all of Henderson, and Larry Adams of Jonesville were ushers. Following the ceremony, the bride's parents entertained at a reception at the Norlina Wo man's Club House. After a wedding trip, the couple will reside at 1422 Perry Avenue, Henderson. Virginia Girl Weds Norlina Man The marriage of Miss Ruth Marie Atkinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Broaddus Atkin son of Ellerson, Va., to Edgar Allen Paschall, son of Mrs. Charlie Price Paschall of Nor lina and the late Mr. Paschall, took place at 8 p m. Saturday in Mechanicsville, Va., Presby terian Church. The Rev. Raymond W. Bau, pastor, officiated. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of Chantilly lace and taffeta. Her veil fell from a crown of seed pearls and sequins and she carried a Bible with an orchid. Mrs. Luther Eugene Atkin son of Ellerson was matron of honor. Robert son, Jr., entertained at their home Sunday afternoon, honor ing Mrs. Robertson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifton P. Rooker, at a surprise silver wedding anniversary party. The refreshment table was covered with a lace cloth and bore a centerpiece of pink camelias, pink burning tapers in silver holders, a pink 4-tler cake topped with a silver bell and decorated with pink ca melias. Punch, nuts, mints, and ham rolls were served. Miss Marie Taylor of Raleigh poured punch and Mrs. J. T. Rooker served the cake. Mrs. Rooker was presented a corsage of white mums tied with silver bows. Relatives attended from Nor lina, Oine, Warrenton, Raleigh and Pendleton. Zion Club Meets At Rooker Home The Zion Home Demoiistra tion Club met on Monday af ternoon at the home of Mrs. C. P. Rooker. The meeting was caled to order by the president, Mrs. J. D. Holtzman. After the singing of "O Little Town of Bethlehem," a devotional per iod was conducted by Mrs. Rooker. The club's crafter leader, Mrs. E. E. Hecht. demonstrat ed the making of Christmas decorations. She also led the group in the playing of games. Christmas packages were ex changed among the members. -The hostess served delicious Christmas fruit and decorated cookies, candy and coffee to the nine attending. The Rooker home was taste fully decorated in keeping with the Christmas season. Christmas Cantata A Christmas Cantata will be presented by the Adult Choir at the Norlina Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon, Decem ber 24. at 4 o'clock. GRISSOM'S Service Geaners NORLINA, N. C. Literature, Music Club Has Program The beautifully decorated home of Mrs. H. H. Foster made a lovely setting for the Christmas meeting of the Nor lina Literature and Music Club last Thursday evening. The program presented was a chorus accompanied by Mrs. Foster at the piano and Mrs. Larry Bryson, violinist. The solo parts wore done by Mrs. Liwie Young, Messrs. Wallace Stallings. Billy Fallav; and W. K. Delbridge. Mrs. Young also sang "No Candle Was There and No Fire." Mr. Fallaw sang "O Holy Night." Others helping in the chorus were Mesdames B. F. Fallaw, W A. Delbridge, G. B. Harris and K. H. Fuller. Mrs. Harris read a Christ mas story, "The Little Match Girl." At the conclusion of the pro gram, the guests were invited into the dining room for re freshments. Decorated ice cream and cocanut snow ball | cakes, topped with liny white t candles, were served from a table covered with a red cloth i and centered with a white nr-| rangement and burning white j tapers. Hostesses assisting Mrs. Fos ter were Mesdames Miry Nor ris Norman, C. E. Tucker and i W. A. Delbridge. John T. Myrick Dies At Hospital John Thomas Myrick, 62, re-' tired Norfolk Naval Shipyard ' employee, died on Tuesday. De cember 8, at the Veterans Hos pital in Salisbury. Funeral services 'were held at the Troy Methodist Church, of which he wrs a member, and burial was in the church j cemetery. A native of Warren County, | Mr. Myrick lived in Portsmouth, Va., for 19 years before mov ing to Norlina in 1947. Be is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Irene Felts of Nor lina and Sara E. Joyner of Norfolk; three sons, Thomas W. Myrick of Portsmouth, Vs., John W. Myrick of Norfolk, Va., and Michel of Troy;, three daughters, Katie Stevinson of Washington, D.
