Mrs. John Dore Is a patient at Duke Hospital Mr. and Mrs. T. T. Hawks. Jr., of Raleigh visited relatives here last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Gondbar and children of Durham were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Norwood. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Davis were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Alexander and Lynn at Farmville, Va., on Monday. Mrs. B. F. Fallaw and daugh ters are visiting relatives at Columbia, S. C. Mrs. Arthur F. Gooch under went surgery at Warren Gen eral Hospital this week. Mrs. George Robinson is confined to her room due to sickness. R. B. Lloyd is a patient at Maria Parham Hospital in Hen derson. Mrs. John W. Stegall is re ceiving treatment at Warren General Hospital. Zion Club Meets At Rooker Home Mrs C. P Rooker was hos tess to members of the Zion Home Demonstration Club at her home Monday afternoon. Mrs. J. D. Holtzman. president, called the meeting to order. Mrs. Rooker read the devotion al prayer and gave a reading en titled "A Recipe -for the New Year." Miss Shelia Newsom of Epworth was en tertained at a party on Satur day afternoon in honor of her tenth birthday by her mother, Mrs. Allison Newsom, and grandparents, Mr and Mrs. Jesse Newsom. The table was covered with a white linen cloth and center ed with the birthday cake and pink roses. The entire home bore lovely arrangements of ping roses. Soft drinks, nuts, homemade candies and cake were served to Glenwood Newsom, Tom Newsom, Eddie Newsom, Steve N e w s o m, Palmer Newsom, Paula Kay Shearin, Beverly j Shearin and Paul Shearin. FPC Directors, Officers Named Pippen Funeral Held At Littleton Friday Afternoon LITTLETON?Funeral serv ices for Mrs. Sally Moore Pip pen were held from St. Alban's Episcopal Church on Friday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Frank M. Pulley, rector. Burial followed in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Littleton. Born October 19, 1882 at Mosby Hall, Mrs. Pippen was the daughter of Capt. John Pelopidas Leach and Ellen Douglas Moore Leach. She grew up on the Mosby Hall planta tion. She was educated at St. Hilda's School in Littleton and was graduated from St. Mary's, School in Raleigh in 1902. She was married to Joseph Powell Pippen of Tarboro on April 17, 1906 at St. Alban's Episcopal Church Jiere. The | late Rev. Frances Joyner of ficiated at her wedding cere mony. Mrs. Pippen was a lifelong member of St. Alban's, although she was baptized at Christ Church in Raleigh, she was confirmed, married and her, funeral services were conduct ed from the little Episcopal church here. For many years she was an active member of the Woman's j Auxiliary of the church, where she also served for sometime' as president. She sang in the I church choir for a number </f years. I She was a charter member | of the first Littleton Woman's' Club and was one of the first 12 members of the Wyanoke, Study Club, organized more' than 50 years ago. She also was an active mem-' ber for a number of years of the Roanoke Minute Men, the | Littleton chapter of the Unit ed Daughters of the Confed eracy. Mrs. Pippen is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Henry Le roy Townsend (Ellen Douglas) of Marshall, Va., and Mrs. William Finley Stokes (Sally, Moore Pippen) of Henderson ville. Two daughters preceed ed her in death, Emily Pender Pippen Koonce and Marv Powell Pippen Rosenthal Pike. Also surviving are six grand-; children, Mrs. William C. Over-j man, Henry Townsend, Jr., and William Brock Townsend, Wil-' liam F. Stokes, Jr., Joseph' Powell Stokes and Herbert j Rosenthal. Mrs. Pippen was for many years a correspondent for "The Warren Record." She also served as nominator for many, many years from this area for the Terpsichorean Ball in Raleigh. ? WARRENTON Tharrington Rites Held On Friday t LITTLETON?Funeral serv ices for James Allie Tharring ton, 32, of Bradenton, Florida,' were held on Friday afternoon at two o'clock in Harris Chapel Church near Hollister.
